Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)

I like to read mysteries when I'm laid up, too. Mysteries and LOTR were my go-to comfort food when I was down with pneumonia and bronchitis for six months. Feeling that way now, as a matter of fact, with a touch of bronchitis at the moment, and looking for comfort.

This chapter just hits the spot. Thanks.

Author Reply: Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Lindelea. I hope you get better soon, but I'm glad you found the chapter comforting. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

What a pleasant surprise to be able to read this today! (Still can't access the chapters people posted yesterday or the day before! Hopefully that will soon be fixed too!)

So we are back in Wiseman, and the plans are afoot to go fetch the "kids". I love your imaginary mystery. I might just want to read that one day.

But I love the way Finrod is beginning to come to terms with and learn from, the modern world. From church politics to sharks to Glorfindel's advice on a more up-to-date leadership style, he's beginning to find out how to put things in context.

I'm eager to see them on the way to Fairbanks and to the encounter with the twins, Serinde, and the SCA!

Author Reply: I felt much trepidation when I posted this chapter, wondering if anyone would be able to access it. I was so happy when I got my first review. I hope whatever is going on with SoA, the problem will be fixed so people can access the other stories that have been recently published.

I suppose I could've haunted the bookstore or library for a good murder-in-the-hospital-type mystery, but I decided it would be fun to just make up one of my own. I've certainly read enough different mysteries to know how to write the blurb for one. *LOL!*

Anyway, I think Finrod is beginning to understand how the real world works these days and is willing to learn from those in the know, whether Elves or Mortals.

And on to Fairbanks. We'll see who goes and how they fare on the trip in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing, Dreamflower. I very much appreciate it.

Good morning, meldonya, I really enjoyed this chapter, especially when Finrod went into the church and got to hear the organ and the singing of Panis Angelicus. That is one of my favorite pieces of music and like you I think Renee Fleming's rendition is superb. I like reading mystery novels when I'm recovering from illness or injury. Too bad the book Finrod brought to Glorfindel is fictional, because it sounds like something I'd like to read. Glorfindel made some good points. I could just see Finrod's reaction when he pointed out the differences in their leadership styles. At least Finrod is willing to try new methods and doesn't just write them off as being bad because he's never done it that way before. It was also good to see Alex, Derek and Zach again. The road trip to Fairbanks should be interesting.

Take care, I'm looking forward to Monday's installment. Have a great weekend!

Author Reply: Hi Edlyn. Panis Angelicus is one of my favorites, too. I heard it sung by the mother of a young man who was being ordained as a deacon, eventually to become a priest, and it was just exquisite.

Anyway, mysteries are good when one is not feeling well, if only because you can say to yourself as you're reading, "Well, at least I'm not dead, like this poor smuck". LOL!

Anyway, Finrod has a lot to think about and hopefully he will take what Glorfindel has said to heart. The next chapter will describe the trip to Fairbanks. Thanks for reviewing and have a great weekend yourself.

Finrod has certainly learned a lot of things in this chapter. Talking with Charles has shown him that one can't be in control all the time. And Charles is so matter of fact about death and living and facing the facts that led to his exile to Wiseman. I like Charles positive outlook on coming to Wiseman which must have really hurt at the time it happened. Charles and Makepiece are good mortal sounding boards for Finrod.

Finrod and Glorfindel are just so good for each other right now. As gwandors they can freely talk to each other and not hide what they are thinking. I think a light bulb has gone on over Finrod's head as Glorfindel was talking about how he deals with the Wiseman elves. If Finrod starts taking some of that talk to heart the Wiseman elves should be more accepting, though it will probably stir up the Valarian elves. Ya can't win.

I feel sorry right now for Helen as she won't come out of her room and the three amigos and Nell need to feel more secure and relaxed. Dropping out of college is not the thing to do right now. Playing Monopoly 24/7 definitely points out that the younger group has no idea on how to deal with what has been going on at Edhellond.

Now to get everyone down to Fairbanks. Having Alex, Derick and Zach there may help the twins feel that they are not being overwhelmed by all the elves that will be showing up. I just hope Ron does not lose his cool. And I wonder if possibly that some of the Wiseman elves just might know of Gwyn's and Garath's parents. Its not an impossibility that somewhere and somewhen they have met up with more elves.

Have a good weekend and look forward to Monday.

Author Reply: Hi rikki. Yes, Finrod has a lot to think about. Charles is a good person for him to talk to, as is Josiah.

And his discussion with Glorfindel probably did more for him than anything else. I'm sure Finrod will start taking a page out of Glorfindel's book on how to manage others. I think, in time, even the Valinórean Elves will appreciate this style of governing when they see how effective it is.

And yes, the next chapter will show them heading for Fairbanks. As to who will be going with Glorfindel and Vorondur, we'll see that as well.

Thanks for leaving a comment. Have a great weekend yourself.
