Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)

This chapter is just delightful. We've had Elves and Elf Academy, Elves and spies, now Elves and SCA - I never can guess where you're going to take this next and it's wonderful.

The more I think about it, the sillier it seems that some of the Elves would look down on the Twins for their bloodline - if anything, they have quite the impressive pedigree. You addressed that earlier in the story but the mention of it here just brought it back. That said, Mortals certainly have a lot of hangups about this stuff too so it's a realistic take on it, I think.

Oh goodness, yes, the Twins and Sarah really will be out of the picture for a while, won't they! I hadn't thought about that.

It's a very, very good idea to have the Mortals be the ones to step in and form/lead the SCA in Wiseman. I think they hit on a winning tactic there, not only as a way to get the group going but as a way to maybe attract some of the Elf-fearing folks and introduce them slowly.

All the SCA history/info is really fun, especially for people like me who've never been into it. I appreciate the backstory you give here.

Oh dear, overprotective Daddy Elf on the loose! :P

Great chapter, these last few have been especially good, and now I'm excited to see the upcoming reunion and, presumably, resulting fireworks show. Ha!

Thanks for the update and have a fabulous week!

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. I like to keep my readers guessing. *grin*

I'm glad you found the chapter delightful. There's a lot going on here even if it's all just "talk", but certainly the Twins and Sarah see the possibilities of the SCA being the perfect vehicle for recruitment and training of Mortals.

I am glad you found the backstory interesting. I tried not to bog down with too many details yet give enough information about the SCA and its organizational structure so people who are unfamiliar with it would understand. I'm glad it worked (at least for you).

And the Reunion won't be long in coming, so stay tune. *grin*

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Ah, the slow progress from canton to shire to Barony! I'd love to see an SCA group in Wiseman--be fun to see who signs up, though I'm not sure it will do much to convince the naysayers. In my experience, the sorts of folks who are already naysaying the Elves also tend to be negative about the SCA. ("My mind is made up; stop trying to distract me with the facts.") I used to hear that sort of person describe the SCA as a cult.

Clearly the twins and Serinde know their elders all too well, and have already figured out most of what was happening back in Wiseman.

I do get a big kick out of Gwyn and Gareth, and their shock at hearing Finrod described as "dude", and their disappointment at learning Serinde and Elrohir are engaged. But there is at least one other available elleth in Wiseman...

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. You're probably right about the naysayers, and I know what you mean about people who are so narrow-minded they label such organizations as a cult without actually understanding what that means. But not all naysayers are painted with the same brush, so you never know. Some of them who are teetering on the edge may end up joining the other side.

Gwyn and Gareth are a lot of fun, being so much younger than all the other Elves. We'll be seeing more of them as the story progresses and we'll eventually meet their parents who, I think, are a hoot.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh, my! Vorondur as the Oncoming Storm descending upon Fairbanks! Will any building be still standing when he's done? *g*

I'm really curious to see where the SCA plotline is going - if Alex and Derek will find it worth their time and join up?

Author Reply: Well, Vorondur is no Glorfindel but he is not a happy daddy. LOL! We'll just have to see how it goes.

And we'll be seeing more of the SCA in this story (and possibly the next) and we'll have to see if Alex and Derek decide to join.

Thanks for reviewing, Soledad. I really appreciate it.

From what we know of Elves, the Second Generation seems interested in ellyth at an earlier age. Poor Garath. Please have someone from the Wiseman/Valinor group for him. That concerns me somewhat given the snobbish attitudes portrayed, but we do not know everyone in that household. Poor ellon took one good luck at a pretty girl and fell!

SCA planning should be a good group activity that does have potential for bringing humans and more elves together.

I will have limited internet access for your next 3 postings. Never think that I will not find a way to read the chapters, but reviews are unlikely.

Thanks for a good chapter.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. Well, both Gwyn and Gareth are around a thousand years old, so they're not *that* young even by Elvish standards, but considering the fact that they've never met *any* ellith, naturally they are curious about the ones living in WIseman, as any red-blooded ellon would be.

And you're right that the SCA is a good vehicle for bringing Elves and Mortals together. We'll see if it actually works.

As for reviews, that's not a problem. When you have better internet access, feel free to go back and leave reviews for the chapters you've missed if you are so inclined. Thanks for reviewing this chapter. I appreciate it.
