Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 16 Review(s)

I'm glad that they did get a chance of a quiet evening talking and relaxing--it was needed.

I'm turning paranoid when it comes to this story--I suspect nearly everything that happens. Now I'm suspicious of the timing of the storm, and find myself anticipating all sorts of complications from it! (This is, BTW, a good thing as it means I am really into the story!)

(I am also re-reading the first "Elf Academy" on my Nook, and getting my memory refreshed on how all this started.)

Author Reply: Sometimes a storm is just a storm, Dreamflower, especially in that part of the world in winter, though who is to say that the Valar, or at least Manwë and Ulmo working together, haven't had a hand in it?

Enjoy your re-read of the first Elf Academy. There's a blizzard in that one, too, but that was definitely Valar-inspired. *grin*

Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Oops, just noted that Rikki is bringing strawberries, I'll bring the shortcakes and the whipped cream.

Have we figured out who is sleeping where yet?

Gets settled in chair, fastens seatbelt, turns on tablet and starts reading E.I. II for the umpteenth time!

More Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: With all the goodies people are bringing to the cliff house, no one's going to be able to get out the door. LOL! Enjoy your read.

Ah, a nice quiet, peaceful chapter, just what we need after the wild ride we have been on!

Looks around for seat belt, I have a feeling that this was the calm before the storm, knowing how you work, oh, Cliffee King!

I would think the Valar are more than a little worried at the lack of enthusiasm for life among the Elves of Aman. I can understand not wanting to have children during a time of war, but the Eldar are not at war, not yet anyway! They need to get up off their collective thumbs and get on with life!

I am off for the next two weeks, Dr.s visit today and the dentist on Thursday, but next week is clear.

Hope you had a pleasant Easter.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. We'll be quiet for the next couple of chapters. The next roller coaster isn't due until later next week. *grin*

I'm sure the Valar have been very worried about the attitude of the majority of the Elves in Aman of late, but you can't force people to be happy or hopeful. I'm sure they've been doing their best to inspire the Elves toward estel and perhaps allowing some of them to return to Middle-earth to help with the Wiseman Elves will help spark a renewed interest in life if the Valar are keeping everyone informed through their Maiar. Certainly, they need to get up and get doing with a war looming on the horizon.

I had a pleasant Easter, thank you, and I hope yours was equally pleasant. Enjoy your two weeks off. Thanks for reviewing. Hugs back.

Nice, quiet chapter - which means that you're probably setting us up for another nail-chewing ride in the next one! :-p

So Finrod was once rescued by a Mortal from a snowstorm? It might be amusing to get that story - and also maybe something about how Glorfindel tackled having his parents reborn.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Well, things will start hopping, but not immediately, so you can sit back and take a breather for the next couple of weeks.

Perhaps Finrod's story (or Glorfindel's) will be told someday. You never know. I've actually wanted to write a multichapter Finrod in Beleriand story for ages but have been sidetracked with Elf Academy.

Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

This was a quiet evening, as the title states, in action, but it was busy with lots of information about what was behind things happening in the last chapter.

First off was Amroth's comment that the new babies would have mortal names. This definitely makes them more assemilated into the current society their parents are living in. Also the fact that no children have been born since the last ice age is very sad. Even though elves are immortal, it must get rather sad when there is no young ones to drive one crazy.

I liked that Finrod was behind Kyle keeping all elves from Glorfindel. He is right in claiming kinship here and Glorfindel needs time to heal before he wakes up to the chaos that has become the norm in Wiseman. I wonder how that will affect the elves who have been serving as medics at the hospital.

And now to find the twins and Sarah. I imagine they will call in soon to find out how Glorfindel is doing.

Now back to the cliff. Everyone's comments on the story are interesting and sometimes point out things I have missed. I will bring strawberries to go with the rest of the goodies for everyone. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Author Reply: Hi rikki. It only makes sense to give the children mortal names, considering the legalities of the situation, which is, that these children will automatically be American citizens. All the other Wiseman Elves are naturalized citizens. And I imagine that Amroth and Nimrodel simply don't see themselves or their children ever returning to Aman.

Finrod is smart to ban all the Elves from ICU. He recognizes that the Mortal medical personnel are better able to handle any crisis that might occur, though I'm sure if Kyle feels it necessary, he would call on the Elves for their help, but, except for Dan and Roy, the other healers have no real clue.

We'll be seeing the Twins and Sarah soon enough, I promise. Just need to wrap up a few things here in Wiseman before we head off to Fairbanks.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Lovely portrait of a simple gathering of friends. Everyone needed a rest. Glad to hear Glorfindel is better. Don't really care if Eanur heals quickly or not. He still needs a huge attitude adjustment. Thanks.

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed this quiet interlude among friends, UTfrog. I think we all deserved a breather after the last few chapters. We'll have a couple more quiet chapters to enjoy before things start heating up again. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.
