Interrupted Journeys: Part 6 Journeys Out of Grief  by elliska 46 Review(s)

I like the little details like Galithil pinching his nose as Legolas cleans up after his painting. But how odd to hear Galithil being the rational, good boy! He's giving Legolas good advice but it's too late, sadly. I cringed when Thranduil asked him what he was hiding under the bed. It sounded so accusatory. And poor Legolas! Not only does he feel unjustly accused, but he's also humiliated by having his "amateur" paintings exposed and being treated so high-handedly. And then, he doesn't even have the satisfaction of being completely innocent. Thank goodness for mothers and grandmothers.

I feel a strong desire to kick Glilavan up and down the Great Steps. The little weasel.

Legolas made such a good argument and even better, he stood up for himself in a way that makes sense emotionally given recent events, but also just makes sense!

Poor guilt-ridden Galithil.

Author Reply: Yeah, that was a really ugly interchange, wasn't it? Thranduil was most assuredly not at his best. He'll get that after a bit of reflection. But Legolas is still really mad about the artwork. He may be mollified a bit that his father did eventually listen to his explanation about the sword lessons, but Adar is going to have to apologize for the artwork before Legolas will be willing to let that go. Thank goodness for mothers and grandmothers indeed. Dieneryn and Lindomiel (and possibly Hallion) are the only people that could have shut Thranduil down at that point in his temper.

You'll feel an even stronger desire to kick Glilavan as this goes along.

Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them so much!

Oh wow. What unfortunate timing. Unfortunate events too, of course, given that someone was hurt. But unfortunate timing, given that Thranduil was already angry and upset. And Glilavan deserves to be smacked around.

The discussion of trade at the start was interesting for a variety of reasons. One of them was that people forget how vital women were to the economic well-being of households in pre-industrial societies. I recently heard someone question whether such a society could afford to have women be "just housewives." They forget how much such women contributes. They weren't sitting around watching soap operas.

Author Reply: Yeah, that was really bad timing, wasn't it? Poor Legolas!

I enjoy thinking about all the things that pre-industrial people would have had to do just to make a meal. It is amazing to think that they had to make the utensils to cook the meal and all that before they could eat. I bet no one had to go to the gym in those times!

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

Well, it was time for Thranduil to explote, too much in his plate, really.

Poor Legolas, I think that he will be in a big trouble, he did wrong, of course, but I don't think that his Father will to be rational about this, bad timimg too, this is not the best day to cross the King...Now, I'm becoming Aradunnon, because I can't pass this Glílavan, he should be reprimended too, the King's son comment was so wrong...

The most touching scene for me was the tapestry, all of them together, as it should be, war is such a terrible thing.

Author Reply: Boy are you right on all counts. Time for Thranduil to explode and he is not feeling rational. Poor Legolas indeed!

Glílavan will get his eventually. But you are going to have to wait for that, because Tulus is going to save his hide a few more times first. He is his son, after all.

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

Wow! I've been awaiting Thranduil's ourburst since the first chapter! I was cheering all along his tirade about not slinking into valinor, though, and well, it's very understandable that he is drawing strength from anger at his brother and stubborn endurance against the shadow, because that is more comforting than simply acknowledging grief and loss.... IT's a bit too much to face it in any other manner..but he's going to need to take some sort of holiday soon, because there is simply too much to just keep taking everything in stride. Lindomiel is going to have her hands full!

I loved it that he still managed to be so tender with his naneth, despite all, and now I fear for LEgolas, because right now the vein of doom is surely about to explode.

Author Reply: It has been so wild, I didn't remember I hadn't responded to these. Sorry! Yeah, you are right. Thranduil's head is going to pop off over this one. I agree, obviously, that Thranduil definitely would not slink to Valinor. :-) I love your modern day image of him, most of all in fact. But in this story, you are right. It's time for a vacation. He's just got to explode first, to recognize that.

Thanks so much for the review. I really appreciate them!

Wonderful chapter! Legolas is going to be in a bit of trouble! I hope Berior is okay. :) Please update soon!

Author Reply: I just noticed I never answered these. It has been an insane week. Sorry. Yep, Legolas is in trouble, no doubt about that! Thanks so much for the review!

Well, I don't like Glilavan, I hope that he understands that his Father will be between Legolas and the traitors, and he is risking his Father life.

Excellent chapter and can't wait for more. Thank you

Author Reply: You've got the right instincts about Glilavan then. He is going to be the source of quite a bit of trouble from here on out. He doesn't understand enough, that is certain.

Gald you are enjoying, and thanks so much for the reviews!

Plot keeps tightening. I am not sure I like the manner in which Glilavan managed the incident, there is something that always makes me grimace about him, so good job there. His keeping bad companies is going to be a pain... for Dolgailon, sooner or later. Speaking of the troop Commander, I really liked how Dolgailon made his point come across. And I think that Anastor and his sidekick are far more trouble anyone deserves!

Author Reply: Glilavan is definitely going to be the cause of a lot of pain from here on out. You are right there. Glad you liked Dolgailon's discussion. I had fun writing that. It will come back to bite him though. Anastor is about to be more trouble. He's the type my parents would have told not to come around anymore!

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

The conversation between Tulus and Glilavan was interesting. Sounds like Tulus is pointing out the possible consequences of Glilavan doing something stupid. I can see why Legolas finds that a bit much to deal with. I never would have thought of Dolgailon as the one to go to, but he's a good choice, though he doesn't really need another burden added to the pile right now. Poor guy. And he's sharp enough to see that something's not right here. So now what?

And speaking of doing something stupid, here we are with the kids and the practice swords. And if I were to give anyone in this chapter a smack, it would be Anastor. What a little weasel to involve Legolas. Though I suppose he was involved the last time they "practiced." Still, good for Legolas for speaking up.

I wouldn't have expected him to say anything more than he did, but the stuff about how he can't have an officer think him untrustworthy is a good point. And thank Eru for Nana as an aid to telling Adar! Inspired (and traditional) choice for a son in trouble.

Author Reply: That conversation, and the one it inspired Dolgailon to have with them, will have a much bigger role in the next part. It is set up that needed to go here in order to be used later. I'm amused you wouldn't have thought to go to Dolgailon. Very true. An easier out for Legolas. And a somewhat legitimate person to seek help from, since his is now troop commander. But not really the best choice, is he? Now what? Exactly. Gonna have to wait for the next story for that. Sorry.

You thought Anastor was bad in this chapter. Wait for the next one. He's going to really go right over the top there.

Inspired (and traditional) choice for a son in trouble.

I bet you know that from experience. :-) You write boys well for a very good reason! :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews, daw! I really appreciate them!

Great chapter! I can't wait to read more. I loved the part about Legolas' sketches

Author Reply: Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying it. And I'm glad you like the part with the sketches. I like to think these elves have some creative outlets, even in a scary place like Mirkwood. :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

Legolas is really falling in with a bad crowd. He better shape up and in a hurry because I can't imagine Thranduil will be very indulgent if he catches him.

Author Reply: Yes he is. And naturally he's not going to shape up until he finds a good bit of trouble. You're right, Thranduil is not going to be indulgent under the best of circumstances about this--and these aren't the best of circumstance.

Again, thanks so much for the reviews!
