The Cursed Queen of Angmar  by khazar-khum 54 Review(s)

All I can say about Ferion is that it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. And Ariashal is brave - she has faith in her husband, but it still requires courage to pull off her end of it.

I am glad to have time to catch up on Ariashal. Again, I am amazed that you can get me rooting for the witch-king, although I admit it is Ariashal and the children who truly move me. Ferion is evil, but I think he is also weak - he wouldn't stand up to the tortures and difficulties he inflicts upon others.

I am curious to see where you take this. I have to go back to the beginning to see if you say when this takes place, if Ariashal is alive when the Witch King is driven from the north.

Thanks for the updates.

Author Reply: This is set quite early in his reign--Amon Sul still stands, and Rhudaur *is* still Dunedain. But that's about to change. *g*

As for Ferion's ability to handle pain--stay tuned! ;-)

SPLENDID cliffhanger! Very well executed reasoning and a dreadful if logical conclusion. I do enjoy a well thought out and realistically derived tale. It is SO refreshing to see characters acting like real people instead of caricatures. Thank you for this and please update as soon as possible! I am positively rooting for the WiKi to show up and save her. Lovely!

... Well, you did it. You made me feel sympathy towards a Nazgul.

Author Reply: Thank you!

Now you'll just have to read on, and see what else is coming. ;-)

Ariashal is an interesting character - I can't help but think that the Witch-King wants her for some rather 'darker' purpose than to take her to wife. The mention of his 'associates'... *shudder*

I am glad to see Ferion defeated by the Witch-King - I actually felt bloodthirsty enough to hope that the Witch-King would slay him! For Ariashal's sake, I hope she can be reunited with her husband, for he does love her and she him.

Much as I am compelled to cheer against the Nazgul, I can't see it as a good thing that Ferion is now in power. Did they really kill the king? Ariashal is in a bad way, poor thing.

Author Reply: Technically, Ferion only controls Rhudaur. Angmar is not his. And as you have probably already guessed, Ferion has made plans for his sister.

You know, if I didn't know he lived, I'd be really irritated at you.... ;)

Nice job, as always. This is one of those stories that is just good fiction, one you could easily publish professionally with a few name changes, which I certainly hope to see you do.

Author Reply: Thanks!

The biggest obstacle to changing the names is the loss of resonance. The backstory is already there. Everyone knows what the Nazgul are. Losing that would, I think, undermine some of the story's effect.

It would be nice if the Tolkien estate would allow for licensing of derivative works. There's so much fine material out there, and it's a shame that it never gets past a handful of websites. In the meantime, you can buy all the Frodo bobbleheads you want. :[

Oh my goodness! That was unexpected... This story is so original and intriguing. I just found it a few weeks ago and read the whole thing in one go. I'm glad you updated here.

Author Reply: Wow--one go??? Thank you!

Herumor's explanation of the water was very interesting, that it calls to them. I wonder about fire, then too.

That had to be pretty amazing for the children to see their father perform magic. This particular thing was merely fun, but his powers have to be very fearful as well.

Author Reply: They've seen him do other, more flamboyant things before. But there's a big difference between fireworks and what he's doing now, yes. Are they afraid? They're more at the "Wow! My dad can do THIS!" stage than anything else.
