Redheredh's Potted Plots  by Redheredh 25 Review(s)

Oh dear, how I can relate to student emissions and so on… well, one does not think about educational institutes in Valinor so often; very interesting. (Final exam for the decade?! Yes, of course.)
I like the pealing away of Rostaro’s personality: arrogant, easygoing, and finally open friendliness. (“Arrogant hick.” sorta was fitting.)
It was a wonderful progression that Erestor used to help Rostaro get on the right path. All in all a very enjoyable, moving interview.
I cannot blame Gail for silliness around Rostaro (and poor Erestor believes her silliness will soon pass?) Liked the wee references to Celebrian. : )

Author Reply: I am glad you found it entertaining! It was written for Perelleth, and she ok with stories that have little action or romance - as long as they are play with ideas. Her Erestor is one of my favorite characters - as you can tell. ;D

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Thank you very much again on the first place! I really loved seeing Rostaro again, and twice! :-)

And Erestor is great here, fitting anywhere as he belonged, with his usual ability, finding himself a family and a career in Valinor while Elrond recovers form the ordeals of having everything and almos losing it all...IT is wonderful to see him so rewarded: It was important and slightly more despotic than bureaucratic And this is amusingly perfect, for I believe that the "despotic" part is what really appealed to Erestor! :-)

And poor Rostaro is wonderful here, a farm boy with all his talents and that strangeness around him. I really like how you let us see him through Erestor' calculating but also compassionate eye: his untamed talent and temper, his budding pride, his fear that he would be chained to a future he was not sure he liked..and the boy's humble surprise when, all of a sudden all his fears are laid bare before his eyes and he can see that, after all, they are not so difficult to overcome. The joyful Rostaro that leaves Ersetor's office surely made his day.

I really loved this tale, for many personal resasons but also for the insight and the compassion that shines through. And I was tickled by the idea of Aman's Accademia! What a world to explore! :-) THank you very much.

Author Reply: You are both so kind and so deserving yourself!

This was a personal gift to you, and I am very very happy you found something personal in it! And very pleased that you enjoyed it!

You are welcome, Perelleth! Happy Birthday!

Wow! This was beautiful and so intense! You ahve such a way with words to create the atpsphere! By the end I was almost holding my breath and sitting on the edge of the chair!

Rostro and Camentur were friends at school! And Rostaro was Camentor's tutor! That was a nice surpirse! and the two youths are so well drawn in their eagerness , seriorness and playfulness! and solemnly said that their expedition had just become a mission. The truth should never be suppressed. This made me laugh, for it rang so true! :-)

But I do love the scene in the foret. Darkness, the fires a beryl of light I particularly loved this expression. And also the sounds of the drums beating into creating an atmosphere, where individual thought is drawn away and every mind beats at the same rythm.. a powerful sensation that was perfectly conveyed by words.

And the ending, of course, what a nice tweak, so anything is what looked like on the first plce, what a wonderful touch to leave us just wondering what ever happened between the stern toron and the tempting driad..

Masterful, so inventive! Lovely!

Author Reply: Thank so much for all the kind words! I am pleased that you enjoyed it! Its especially nice to know what you liked in particular.

But, you already know a little about the toron and "driad". She once lived in a palace in Ost-in-Edhil, and he becomes the Aratar of Alqualonde, whom Rostaro encounters again in "Beech Leaves". Of course, what was going on between those two at the time of this story is another story. ];}

And once again, take it easy going back to work!

As I recall, Camentur is older than Legolas's wife? In Bodkin's story, he's married? This is an amusing and charming look at two young males who learned more than they bargained for.

Author Reply: That's right, Camentur is the older married brother of Elerrina, whom we met during her and Legolas' courtship. Rostaro was released from Mandos around the time the Ringbearer's ship arrived in Aman. Elrond and Celebrian actually met him in "Golden Flower Blossoms".

*g* One of those 'coming of age' things?

Thank you very much for the review!

You almost make me miss academia! Almost. Erestor is good with young people trying to figure themselves out. I'm glad he could help this one.

Perelleth the Wise? LOL.

Author Reply: *whew* close call! Well, Perelleth the Wise almost asked me to remove that reference! Almost. :D Thank you for the review.
