This is another lovely tale, thenarration so stark and simple. I love the twist at the end - I thought it was the girl's POV, but it reminds us that civilians died as well.

That is an amazing piece of writing, and so heart-rending! The mother's voice is very powerful.

Well done!

This seems like a real tragedy to me--an innocent corrupted, one of the worst effects of the Shadow.

It was a modest feast with sparse dainties and humble wine, and one unexpected guest, who wore no wedding clothes

That's a really nice line. The emotions in these pieces are understated, represented in small things, and all the more strongly shown for that.

I love the way she focuses on the trivia of the shoe, unable to look for long at the stark pain of the loss. That seems true to life to me.

Oh very nice, I like the way you have woven these together. It is nice to have LOTR stories from another perspective, most people seem to write about the main characters, not many write about the Spear Carriers!

Wow, this is very good writing. The two I’ve so far read each had its own tone, each showed the despair of the speaker flawlessly, each ended in a way satisfying.
The first of the Rohan was brilliant with the boot theme… the mother’s voice held a sort of shock, pride of her son, disbelief.
The second I liked for the bitter happiness of the girl for her sister and at the moment when she sees her man and her sister embraces her.

Author Reply: Thanks for the review. It's nice you've noticed the boot theme - watch out for recurring themes in the other chapters, I promise there's quite a bit to find.
