Drought and Doughty Hobbits  by Neilia 13 Review(s)
Grey WondererReviewed Chapter: 1 on 7/13/2008
A lovely tribute and I do like the image of the hobbits young and old dancing and playing in the rain.

Author Reply: I remember when my brother and I were allowed to dance in the first warm rains that ended long hot summers up in Idaho where I was born. It was so fun to splish-splash and get really cooled off! Hugs and thank you, Neilia

We've spent time in eastern Washington state watching the tanker planes take off, land, refill with more water and fire retardant, and take off again to help fight such fires on the eastern slopes of the Cascades and the prairie areas and brush-filled canyons. It's seldom that bad on our side of the mountains, although on occasion we, too, have our wildfires.

Our friends who live in the Okanagon Valley used to tell us with obvious relief when the rains would finally fall and relieve the droughts. And this is very, very true to life.

Author Reply: Thank you for your review, Larner. It is not hard to write about fire fighting efforts when tankers and helicopters fly right over our apartment complex... *sigh* I will be so very relieved when the fires are finally out! Hugs, Neilia

This is a wonderful tribute to 'many small hands doing what they must', Neilia. I live in California too, and it's the tireless fire-fighting heroes who stand between us and losing everything.

Author Reply: I can not imagine the all-gone feeling of losing everything like that. Only once or twice have I had little items stolen...I was so very disinheartened. The impact of loss some folks are feeling who have been burned out must be devastating. Thank you for your review. Hugs, Neilia
