“The hobbits remarked up on it,” Aragorn said thoughtfully. “Or Sam did. He said, ‘No cattails, or marsh-grass or water-weeds, or fish or frogs or anything edible’.”

“Pippin remarked upon the lack of frogs,” Legolas corrected him.

“In relation to the equal lack of breadcrumbs and butter,” Aragorn agreed. “Yes, he would.” Merry smiled, too tired to contest the comment.

A wonderful wee bit :-)

I'm eager to see how well Gimli's plan works, so I'm off to the final chapter!

And now, like all of your wonderful tales, the Fellowship rejoins its destined path of canon!

I really love the way you are able to do that so well! No matter how thrilling or suspenseful the adventure, the goal is never lost, and they always return to the Quest relatively undamaged!

And I also enjoyed very much the way they all work together to show their own strengths.

Poor Merry, though, forced to give up his little stash! *snicker*

Let those orcs and wargs and goblins come! There waits an explosive surprise for them ;-)

I agree with Dreamflower that in your stories each member of the fellowship shows his worth. Gimli knows everything about mining and rocks, but it's the combination of rock ore AND Gandalf's addition that will do the trick, I think.

I'm not quite sure about Merry's role in the coming fight, though!

Frodo is still suffering a lot. I hope he will get better soon!

And thank you for the quick update :)

Oh, Budgie! Your Gimli rocks!! (no pun intended)

You know, one thing I love about your stories is how each and every member of the Fellowship gets his opportunity to shine, and that they all work together so well! This is wonderful!

Ooo, exciting. Gimli created black powder, did he?

The Dwarf's discovery was interesting. Trust him to know his rock and the results of mining.

Frodo's cough and fever are worrisome. Incipient pneumonia?

Two quick updates, hurrah. *tosses confetti*

Aha! Mine tailings! Have been through the Sierra Nevadas about Virginia City, and have seen my share. And now they have plans for it?

And dear Saruman is to blame for this, is he? Why am I not surprised? He does seem to like turning fair lands desert....

Ah, Sam can take care of himself and the pony to, I always thought that he swung a mean frying pan. Gimli got wet afterall.

Well, well, now that was a good chapter Budgie, I enjoyed it much, but those leechs all I can say is ewwww! Can't wait for more. Hugs the Imp

Would have explained what?

Whew. Glad Bill is all right. Glad Frodo spoke. Glad Sam didn't get et, either. Quite the vivid battle description, up to your usual high standard.

You almost make me pity the leeches. Almost.

Looking forward to more.

I'm right glad that Frodo is on the mend. He is, isn't he? All those dead leeches make me worry!

And I loved your description of Gimli in this chapter! Water goblins are no match for a dwarf with good battle axes.

"That warmed the blood a little. Pity the others ran." That's 100% Gimli :)

Last but not least: the obligatory cliffhanger! (Yay!)

What is it about the water? Or was something IN the water? Loads of questions...

I'm looking forward to reading the answers!
