This was such a dreadful scene and no wonder the world screamed NO. It was all so hopeless at that point and such a waste to risk one so brave and all who went with him.

Author Reply: Denethor reminds me so much of the generals of our wars. Sending company after company, platoon after platoon, and regiment after regiment out to battle - hoping that the 'greater good' was important enough to offer up the lives of their men.

As a mother, I would do the same if my children were in danger. Denethor's failing came from the fact that he put EVERYTHING ahead of his children, IMHO. But that is the way he was brought up, and the way the world revolved in his time. And the nature of the Evil that he faced.

And in the BOOK, he did plan and SEND a sortie out to 'rescue' them when they retreated, as he knew they would have to do. He was not stupid.

LOL I am on my way to bed for the night but the title of this one pulled me in! I am thinking of putting this one on my Christmas Carrol list for this year! Thanks for the good laugh right before bedtime. Night!

Author Reply: LOL - glad it put a smile on your face - nice to go to bed in a good mood. I've got a couple more 'Yule/Christmas' songs/poems - but I'll wait till it's nearer the season... Perhaps I'll write a Carolling book! LOL

Poor Frodo, to see the Ring working on him at that moment in the movie was pretty heartbreaking.

Author Reply: It was a terrible time, wasn't it? Thinking all his friends and companions had turned against him.... my heart broke for him. I'm glad that PJ had Boromir give him a word of encouragement.

Yes, a wonderful look at that movie moment.

Author Reply: Though I never believed the ride of Faramir was a suicide ride as PJ depicted in the film, the sight of these warriors going out with such courage, knowing many would not return, is inspiring....

You had to do that, didn't you, Agape? Now that image will play in my head every time one of my clients starts singing "Jingle Bells." Sweet Valar!

Author Reply: Oh dear! I'm so sorry.

Oh dear, but I can't stop giggling.... I mean, really. The tunnels are long and could be such fun, couldn't they!!!!
