The Treasure Hunt  by Jay of Lasgalen 19 Review(s)

Very enjoyable and amusing! Kids and 'easter egg' hunts are eternally fun to watch! A real chocolate-bunny of a story for Dot on her birthday. ;)

Author Reply: Treasure hunts are always fun. I sent my son on a hunt for buried pirate treasure once - he was thrilled to bits when he unearthed some bits of cheap jewellery! (And it turned out that he believed for a long time that the pirates had really left it!!)

what a cute story. I have had to do the same for my ever-inquisitive seven year old girl a time or three. besides, I always love a good story with Erestor in it ^__^.....

Author Reply: I've done the same for my own children when they were young! I enjoyed writing poor, frazzled Erestor here ...

Poor Erestor. He really is not cut out for this baby-sitting stuff. And Glorfindel:

They were halfway to the waterfall when Glorfindel joined them. He was breathing hard.

*snort*

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for the conversation that brought on his exertion :-)

Very sweet. An ingenious way to keep two youngsters busy AND to hand them back as quickly as possible to their rightful guardians.

Author Reply: "Glorfindel? I just sent the twins to the waterfall. Go and get them back, please, before they fall in and drown themselves ..."

Poor Erestor is right. He really can't cope with two lively elflings!

They sure are clever little kids, to get all the riddles just like that. Good for Glorfindel for thinking up the scav hunt for them. This is why he is a great leader of Elves.

Author Reply: I tend to write Glorfindel as an uncle/friend/confidant to the twins, so he knows only too well what will catch their attention. It worked, too ...

I really enjoyed this! I think I smiled from start to finish :-)

Poor Erestor seems completely exasperated by the two bored, persistent elflings. I laughed at them not quite getting the fact that it’s “today” all day long.

Of course, it sounds like even Glorfindel has had his fair share of trying to keep them occupied. Still, a treasure hunt was quite clever and as guaranteed as anything could be to keep them busy and out of harm’s way.

I love riddles but I’m not very good at them so I had great fun watching them solve them. I particularly liked the way they work together and each seems to enjoy it and be good at it. Even when they argue now and then they’re still both in this together. LOL at them stopping to eat some of the strawberries! That’s exactly what I’d have done too…

The funniest part was Elrohir fluttering his eyelashes to find out what he needed to know while impatient Elladan just leapt right in to search through all the mending. Hilarious. It looks like Elrohir could teach his brother a thing or two about getting what he wants! I thought it was a nice touch too how so much of the mending is theirs. It gives a good glimpse of how, um, active they are.

But Elladan makes a pretty good detective. Glorfindel probably didn’t count on being spotted!

Ok, I did guess that last one was a bridge! And I was hoping it was their parents that they’d find. I bet Erestor will be glad ;-) “They were no trouble at all,” he declared, though Elladan noticed that he had his fingers crossed as he spoke. ROTFL!! Somehow, I think Elrond might rather suspect that he’s not hearing the whole truth…

This was just lovely, Jay. I got completely caught up in their excitement and energetic determination to complete the hunt. Thank you so much again. I really wasn’t expecting all these great stories but you’ve made me very happy :-)

Author Reply: Happy birthday for tomorrow, Dot! Have you got to work?

I'm glad you liked this, and I must admit I had great fun writing it. The twins are such a joy to write when they're like this. Elladan is perfectly aware what 'today' means. He's just trying to annoy Erestor - and succeeding! Poor Erestor is rather frazzled, while Glorfindel is enjoying the fun.

One of the things I like about the twins is showing their differences, and their arguing and banter, so I'm really glad when people comment of that. Yes, however much they argue, they're still a team :)

I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow, with many elves bearing gifts.

Erestor sounds rather frazzled. I think he is going to put in for a long vacation, one that lasts until the twins come of age. They were cute, though, and very smart to figure out those clues!

Author Reply: Poor Erestor is very frazzled :) Glorfindel wasn't much help, either - he found the whole thing rather amusing.

I don't think I could cope with them, though - they're not badly behaved, just very lively and curious!

Too cute! I love your stories! Poor Erestor will tell Elrond quite a different story when asked if the boys were any trouble, I'm sure. Poor exasperated Erestor! Glorfindel sure was nice to let the kids off easy in front of their parents. I loved the hunt and clues and the end was so very sweet! Well done, as usual.

Author Reply: Thank you!

I'm not sure that Erestor will tell a different story - he wouldn't want to admit that he'd been overwhelmed by two elflings, would he? And Glorfindel won't tell - the twins are high-spirited, rather than naughty!

A good birthday story, Jay. I hope Dot finds her heart's desire too.

The twins were very engaging in this. They never mean to be bad. :-)

Author Reply: Of course they never mean to be bad! For example, they know they shouldn't go to the waterfall alone, but as Erestor told them to ... they're just curious.

Glad you liked this, Daw - I had a lot of fun writing it!
