Elf, Interrupted: Book One: Glorfindel Redux  by Fiondil 11 Review(s)

Yea, Finrod is back! I liked the photo-negative outfits the Feanturi wore, and how Finrod is maturing before our eyes. He may still be a bit rash, but he has not lost his wisdom. As soon as I relized the stripes on his tabard were black, I knew Namo would be behind it ;)

I think it would be easier for the Valar to answer the charge of manipulation if they could assure him that he was reborn when he was because he was ready - not because they pushed him along quickly or anything like that. The explanation that they have many contingency plans, and use the ones that work was the same idea, but very big-picture! (I'm sure the elves seem to have their eye more on the big picture that mortals do, but the Valar even moreso!)

And the meeting of Finrod and Bëor led to Barahir saving Finrod, which led to Finrod making his Oath and giving his ring, which led to Finrod helping Beren, which led to his death, and Beren and Luthien reclaiming a silmaril, which led to....well, a lot! But also the entire line of Luthien.... Even the Valar cannot see where that will lead, in the end.

Author Reply: The Valar, being Valar, do have a bigger picture than even the Eldar and sometimes it seems to the elves that the Valar are being manipulative when they actually are just substituting one contingency plan for another as the Eldar make or don't make decisions. Fëanor accused the Valar of not doing anything when they simply sat in silence in the Ring of Doom, but now of course we know differently, don't we?
