The Lady in the Glade  by The Karenator 13 Review(s)

How cool! Elrohir meets an urban legend right there in Middle Earth. He does so with style and panache, though much of that can be attributed to the horse. I especially liked the way he set up the first "meeting" in the glade in the morning, taking full advantage of the horse's inability to talk. And, of course, the horse still has an opinion and lets Elrohir know it in no uncertain terms.

Only you could write a ghost story that is completely reassuring all the way through.

Author Reply: LOL! Thanks, FP. I'm so pleased you liked the story. Do you remember the urban legends about a guy picking up a girl in a party dress, and taking her home only to have her disappear when he arrived at the address she gave him, and her parents telling him their daughter died in an accident on the way home from a dance 'x' number of years ago? I kept thinking about them while I was writing this. I think every part of the country has a local tale about the disappearing hitchhiker.

Only you could write a ghost story that is completely reassuring all the way through.

I've always loved a good ghost story, but I don't like to be scared. I'm wimpy that way. I'm glad you found the story reassuring.

Thanks again, FP. I appreciate you reading and reviewing. I'm always thrilled to hear from you.

Wow! I love Nilmandras birthday! So many great stories! This one was wonderful, but I wish it would go on or have a sequel or something , but then I always want more when the stories are good. Thanks I really enjoyed this.

Author Reply: I've enjoyed Nilmandra's birthday month too! She should have them more often.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. I don't have any plans for a sequel, but Dolroval is willing to make another appearance as soon as his agent works out the details. He felt too many of his lines ended up on the cutting room floor. But I can think of no better compliment than hearing you wanted it to go on. Thank you. I appreciate you reading and taking the time to review.

What a lovely tale - lyrical and mysterious, and a little romance. Poor Elrohir, though - to find a beautiful maiden he knows he could love, lose her mysteriously, then find she's a figure of legend, and that he's destined for a Higher Purpose.

It's rare to find a story that focuses almost solely on just one of the twins, though I liked having a little Elladan towards the end, and some twin banter. As much as I liked Elrohir in this tale, there is another character who is even better - his horse! Dolroval was absolutely wonderful - I loved everything about him, from his warning Elrohir, their understanding of each other, and the way even he was smitten with Ereiel. Great stuff.

Author Reply: Thank you, Jay. I admit a fondness for Dolroval too. He very much wanted this story to be about him. My beta had to keep sending him to the stables with reminders about proper horse behavior. Silly ranger. :>)

In my mind, Elrohir was not one to fall for a maiden easily. But Ereiel brought out all his protective instincts, his feelings about his mother, and his desires to have someone in his life, someone he could see a future with. He didn't find it quite as easy to accept Ereiel might not be real as he did Hurin's ghost when he teased Halbarad about it. I don't think Elrohir will ever mention this to Halbarad, just as I don't think Halbarad will ever tell Elrohir about seeing the child in 'The Circle'. Guys are funny that way.

Thanks again, Jay. I had to wrestle this story like a greased pig. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
