| Aww...poor Saradoc. It's hard to have to share a room when you are used to one of your own. And poor wee Mac, trying to get used to sleeping in a new place. This was adorable, and so hobbity of Saradoc to forget his irritation, once his little brother was all snugged up closely. Author Reply: Thank you, dear. | Merimac might be a nuisance most of the time but he could not help loving him anyhow - though he would never tell him that. Perfectly observed, Lily! A great addition to your Mac stories, especially to those involving the Brandybuck brothers. I like those two :) Author Reply: Thanks, dear. I have been fond of each of the brothers for quite a while - especially Saradoc due to his constant presence in Schicksalsjahre eines Hobbits - but the more I think about Mac's life, the more I like to see the two of them together. | |

| The sad part is, I wonder if in all his anger and grief if Frodo really did realize his behavior toward Berilac. If so, I bet felt even worse after the fact. Another wonderful look at a glimpse of Merimac's life! A follow-up to this one, perhaps? ~Elemmírë~ Author Reply: He will realise it in the morning at the latest. As I know Berilac he will let Frodo know. I'm not sure about a follow-up. Maybe... :) | |

| What a sweet image, of a Father who has learned how to listen, and really say things that will help. Berilac will be on his way to understanding that even the best people sometimes have troubles. Author Reply: Awww... nicely said. The many years of knowing Frodo must have given him some ability to understand him at least a little - and thus comfort his son. Thank you! | |

| Oh dear! It's the anniversary again. And that's the only explanation for Frodo's behaviour towards Berilac. In other circumstances he would never have said such things to a child. I like Mac's reaction. Others in his situation would have turned on the spot and would have taken Frodo to task. Not so Merimac. He thinks before he reacts, something that is normally true for Frodo as well. In spite of the irritating news Merimac had to smile a little. Berilac entrusted to him his all and everything, lifted him further up than he probably deserved and yet always brought him down again. It's a wonderful experience to be a father and to HAVE a father. Berilac has both his parents to tell them what troubles him, but Frodo has only Merry. And I don't think he tells him everything. Of course, this situation will change eventually, when Frodo comes to live with Bilbo at Bag End. But for now, that can only be small comfort to him! Poor Frodo! BTW, how old is Beri in this story? The same age as Merry? Author Reply: As for the ages in this story: Berry is 7 and Merry is 5. I don't think that Merimac always thinks before he acts. In fact I picture him just the other way round: living for the moment, not caring for consequences - at least until Adamanta and Berilac came along. And of course he knows Frodo from the day he was born. You know, I don't think Frodo told Merry anything in this story, except that he is sad. For Frodo, I think, it is enough to know that somebody is there. The line you quoted was written for another story which was abandoned due to missing plot. I think it fits quite nicely here. | |

| He smelled of hay, weed, sweat and ponies, of summer and something which slowly but without any doubt became home for her. How beautiful, Lily! I'm not married (yet), but I think that's how it must feel when the marriage is brand-new! In German we say "Die Chemie muß stimmen!". I don't know, if there is any English equivalent. At least, "Leo" didn't help me ;-) But I'm sure for those two this fact is true! Author Reply: Thanks a lot! I'm not married either - not even in love, but that feeling just came to me last night and begged to be turned into some story or another. As for Merimac and Adamanta - I have another story with the two of them in store. It's called Ribbons but has not yet been send to beta. You will see that they had been on the same level from the very beginning... and yet that level was different than that which you see here. Am I speaking in riddles? | |
