*chuckle*

Boromir deserved that!

And I do love the hobbits teasing him at the end. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thank *you*! Boromir was pretty dense and self-centred there, silly man, lol! I am glad that you liked the hobbits too!

This is wonderful--I'd never wondered before what the reactions of the others must have been towards Boromir's gallant but foolhardy gesture!

I love your Boromir voice, so dignified, and unselfconsciously proud, and yet--when he realizes what he's done, so humble and willing to admit his fault. This is the brother that Faramir can look up to with so much love and admiration in spite of his father's favoritism.

Author Reply: Thanks Dreamflower! Boromir blowing his horn just when they are trying to sneak away quietly into the darkness has always bothered me. I wonder what Gandalf thought...I can just imagine Film Gandalf rolling his eyes and shaking his head in disgust : )

I am glad that you liked the way Boromir came out in this. I see him just as you said, and I am *so* glad that came through in the story. And I see him as always willing to learn from his mistakes, as any good commander must be, and all things point to Boromir being a good commander.

Just lovely, Marigold! I liked how the hobbits turned things around on Boromir!

Author Reply: Thank you! The hobbits have a lot more common sense than men do about many things! I am so glad that you read and liked my story!

The depth of my blindness stuns me and I tell them so, and learn something else about this race so foreign to me. They have hearts much bigger than their stature. They forgive me immediately, the moment the words “My friends, I am so very sorry,” leave my lips and they can see that I understand at last what I have done. Pippin nearly has me over in an enthusiastic hug, and Merry claps my arm as firmly as any comrade in Gondor’s army. I find I am relieved most of all to be back in their good graces, as these two have become dear to me.

I do love it when the Fellowship members learn new things about one another! This is an adorable and very perceptive little story.

Author Reply: Thank you Shirebound! I am really glad that you liked it!

*sigh* This is lovely, a wonderful presentation of Boromir. You captured him so well, and also the hobbits - I heard their voices clearly. And I love how the hobbits' moods change so quickly, from anger to teasing. Very wonderful work!

Author Reply: This is a very wonderful review! Thank you so much ST! I am so glad that you liked it!

Oh Marigold, this is lovely! Fresh and clear, and it makes an excellent canon point as well. *applauds* Gorgeously done. The writing is also very Tolkienish and flowing.

Author Reply: Eee! Tolkienish! I tried very hard to make Boromir sound Tolkienish so I really appreciate you saying I managed it! I am so glad that you liked it Maripo5a, and I hope that you are hard at work on your own writing! : )

fter some good-natured arguing over whether or not they should say “good night” or “good morning”

*LOL*
This is so typical for the hobbits!

I liked this a lot. I don't usually read anything about Boromir but you really captured him well. And what an embarrassment for a bold warrior to be put into place by hobbits :)

Author Reply: Thank you Lily! I am so glad that you think that I captured Boromir well. And the hobbits! I appreciate your comments very much! : )

Oh this is great Marigold. I always did think Boromir was a bit silly sounding that horn but Tolkien needed us to know he had it or the second sounding would not have been as effective. I have often wondered if Faramir heard that first winding as he did the second but probably not as it was not 'on the borders of Gondor'.

Author Reply: Thanks! His doing that has always bothered me...they are leaving under cover of darkness, trying to be stealthy and secret, and he announces their departure! Can you imagine if Pippin had done any such thing! They would have sent him home tied up in that sack : )

I agree that it was a good way for Tolkien to introduce the importance of Boromir's horn, and I also think that his blowing of it here really expanded on the image that we already had of him, from his behaviour at the council.

Thank you for reviewing!
