I love the relationship between the Reverend Mother and the reborn infant. How difficult it must be at times to have to give such children over to be fostered. And will be interesting to see if this story follows the inquiry Celebrian obviously is dying to make.

Author Reply:
As Ulbanis says, this is how it should be between mother and child. At least she can visit with him since he has been fostered by a family in the village.

Who doesn't want to know what's in the letter? Next chapter, some explanation of Ulbanis and Glorfindel's relationship.

Thank you very much for reviewing. It is appreciated.

I have a distinct idea that the two of them do NOT intend to remain separate from one another while in the guesthouse. And I had never considered the effects of the loss of the power on either the Three nor their bearers. Intriguing!

Author Reply:
Heh, of course, they will behave themselves while guests under Ulbanis' roof. ;)
Glad you find this tale intriguing. I hope you find the rest just as interesting.

Thank you for the kind review!

Oh my. Oh delight, delight. Rostaro is the most gorgeous baby. I love him with Ulbanis - she just adores him. He couldn't have a better substitute mother if he was able to choose his own. A

nd I love his fascination with Celebrian and Elrond. (They need another baby themselves. If not several.) He responds beautifully to Celebrian - and she seems to have some kind of magic powers when it comes to helping babies sleep. And the bit with Elrond throwing him up in the air made me laugh - it is such an adar thing to do with a little ellon. Women just don't appreciate flying babies. At least, not unless they have learned from experience that the male in question isn't going to drop the baby.

The discussion over finding the families of reborn babies is really good. I like the Sherlock Holmes-ishness of Celebrian here. And it would make a splendid project for Galadriel - although I don't think Ulbanis would be very happy to lose little Rostaro to his family.

“Laurefindë sends this to you.”

Fascinating reaction. Surprised. Shaken. Very keen to read the letter. But not, according to Celebrian, who is good at seeing things, loving. Want to know more!

I enjoyed this so much! I shall have to read it some more times to pick up all the nuances.

Author Reply:
I am very happy you liked this little glimpse of their early lives! Ulbanis truly believes that special people are sent her way and cares very much for them all.

Ha! You are always pushing for their increasing the population. ;) As to putting babies to sleep, C's adar was pretty good at it too. And most Lindar seem to think baby-tossing is as normal as kissing their fat little cheeks. After all, a wood-elf's feet are often off the ground and a sea-elf flies on the wind across the water. Most Golodhrim etc. seem to find the idea of flying a little scary, perhaps a bit like challenging Sulimo's jurisdiction.

I think you are right that Ulbanis would have to be persuaded that they would not be creating a lot of heartache for everyone involved. It would have to be accomplished with magical means, I think. Only other way would be for the Valar to outright tell them. Or some sort of 'recognition' between him and his blood-kin.

I really had to think about translating Glorfindel's Sindarin name back to his Quenya name because the northern Sindarin folk did not actually translate the meanings of the names as much as find a comfortable phonetic version that carried similar connotations. And then, I just went with the simplest and most obvious anyway. *sheesh*

Hmm, I think you mean Elrond. He judged Ulbanis' reaction as being not loving.
Next chapter there is a defining moment with Ulbanis and Laurefinde.

I am so glad you are enjoying this tale! Thank you!

Oh my! I had forgotten Rostaro's "unusual" circumstances... I am as puzzled as Elrond is, considering it all. Poor one twice, I'd say, to have died at such young age and to have been rehoused, er.. reborn, witout hints of his parentagen. But then, Celebrian is ready to reopen a "missing" file. She´s right, I deem in that would be a time-consuming occupation for Galadriel until her lord arrives...

As one who has been in charge of an eighteen months old pack of endless stamina for the last two weeks, I can only agree with Ulbanis: exhausting them is the best thing... if you are not exhausted first, though!

Baby Rostaro is lovely! And Elrond and Celebrian clearly enjoyed the chance of showing off their skills as experienced parents... Grandchildren are out of their reach for now, sadly.

And now, too, I´m very intrigued by the contents of Glorfindel´s letter, and the nature of his relationship with Ulbanis.

Author Reply:
I really do not know how they would investigate the mystery except through some magical means. But I think, Ulbanis would need convincing that they were not just stirring up heartache for all involved.

Well, then you know! A nephew, I take it. ;)

Actually, I think they are enjoying the priviledge of all grandparents. Playing with the kids, spoiling them if you like, and then giving them back. :D

Glad you are intrigued enough to continue.
Next chapter, a defining moment between Ulbanis and Laurefinde.

Thank you so much for the review!

This story is very interesting and very unusual. I like Elrond's therapy for himself of delivering messages on behalf of those still in Middle-earth. I also like his watching his lady. Very romantic and very amusing. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I am very glad that you have found this chapter interesting and amusing. I don't get unusual as a comment very often. But, I kinda like it. :D

However, I take it as a real compliment that you think it is romantic. There will be about three more chapters which I hope you will also enjoy.

Thank you so much for the kind review!

Oh, nice! What an unexpected treat, to get to read a story from you today. And there are so many good things to say about this story.

The details! Just brilliant. The hat, the heat, Elrond's annoyance at the scrachy letter, Elrond's joy, Celebrian's beauty (as well as her joyful, teasing ways), the slight cultural differences, a quiet village (as opposed to Tirion or some other massive city), the way that the villager recognized his name and gave him some helpful advice. So many good things that added so much to the atmosphere of this story, enticing your readers to imagine that we're really there.

I particularly enjoyed how you alluded to the healing that the ringbearers had to undertake, and how their injuries had different sources, and how getting stronger has been a different path for each of them. For Elrond, it is his wife, and slowly letting go of the last of the responsibilities he undertook in Middle-earth. For Galadriel, it is reconciling the past.

And as usual, you manage to fill in the world with interesting people. Servants, the elf in the village. I always get the feeling that they are full, rich, interesting people, who just happen to be here in this story.

Looking forward to seeing where you take us!

Happy to surprise! You of all people can understand how hard it is to post very often.

Ah yes, details iz us. But, I'll keep doing it as long as someone says it works, I guess. I do like historical fiction to be realistic. And ME is alternate history to me.

I sincerely hope we are indiviuals with similar characteristics and not entirely all the same. Nature itself is a host of variations on several themes. Throw in self-consciousness and free-will and you will have extreme uniqueness.

Yes! Exactly! Anyone can be part of another's story! They might play a smaller role in those, but they are a central character in their own.

Next chapter is Ulbanis and Rostaro - if and when I finish polishing that up.

Thank you so much for reviewing. It's really nice having you around again.

What a lovely account of these two touring Aman in warm weather. And a welcome image in this cold winter!

It is so good to see Elrond´s "happily ever after..." He´s plainly enjoying a faster healing here than in Irmo´s gardens, once the worst pain was removed from him. Travelling around Elvenhome as a messenger following her wife´s neck... er, mount, sounds like something he must have enjoyed thoroughly!

But, above all, I enjoyed the loving bantering about the gender of the recipient of the letter... and Celebrìan´s smug victory.

And I´m so looking forward to seeing Rostaro!

Author Reply:
*g* In the winter, the weather in the Big Valley is just lots of rain and no snow. In the summer, it's hot and dry. So I guess I was projecting that a little onto Elrond.

Yeah, he deserves some rewards for his dedication. And he is a guy, after all.

It struck me that Glorfindel might have his own preference and not what many authors would make it. ;) And Celebrian is, for sure, her parents' child.

Well then, I hope you enjoy the next chapter!

Thanks for taking the time to review. It is always appreciated.

I'm so glad it's a Saturday morning - so I can reread this at my ease! It is just lovely. I enjoyed the atmosphere of warmth - the hats and the shirt with no tunic. Not to mention Elrond admiring Celebrian's neck and thinking about the little curls that tease themselves from her hair....

There is an elf who is definitely feeling better for having been reunited with his beloved - and who can think of lots of things he could do that are better than trying to plan his way round Sauron. I'm not surprised he didn't want to hang around in Lorien's gardens: his healing is riding the horse in front of him and Celebrian will be able to help him a lot more than Irmo! Although it is absolutely typical of Elrond that he finds it healing to bear messages to their recipients from those who remained east of the sea. When you are into service and working for the greater good, you can't just give it up!

Celebrian is delightful - healed and happy and reunited with Elrond. Content. And I'm glad to know that Galadriel is remaining in the gardens for the time being - she needs that now. (And it will help her deal with the wait for Celeborn to decide that he will join her.)

Glorfindel's message - most entertaining that they would debate over whether it was to a male or female. And Elrond would leave it to last, so that he could give it the attention it deserves. I'm rubbing my hands at the thought of learning more of what is happening here!

I like the servants - squabbling - and the sleepy drivers. Details that fill in a world and make it multi-dimensional. And I can't wait for Elrond and Celebrian to meet Ulbanis. (I'm glad that they are able to be naughty, too. Elrond needs a bit of naughty.)

I think I've missed all sorts of delicious details out - but I'm going to go and read it again now. Lovely.

Author Reply:
Well, after I got started I realized that I did not want Elrond all angst-ridden and missing out on the good things Aman did have to offer him. Most especially being reunited with Celebrian. ;) And I also think we are right that he would feel better having some role to focus on until he can wind down a little more and feel comfortable cruising at Eldamar speed.

I just had to throw in a remark about Galadriel and her sojourn. What with her situation being similar to Celebrian's when she arrived.

*sigh* There is seems to be no debating with some people about what gender Glorfindel might prefer. That in itself is amusing. But, don't get too excited, you know how I tend to be more of a traditional than progressive romantic.

Well, I would certainly not make a very good impressionist painter despite the required articulate brushwork. I do tend towards realism simply because I prefer it. A good trompe l'oeil actually excites me. I like murals in the dining room. :D Next chapter moves around Ulbanis and receiving the letter. And maughty?! No, good heavens, just healthy attraction and true love. But, always with a bit of decorum. ;)

Thank you so much for reviewing. You are real support for so many here.
