Whoa! That was one full chapter. There was a lot going on there.

I am glad the hobbits took it so well that Legolas had been easing their dreams. I know Merry's a little upset by it, but he's just a wee bit stressed right now. Hope he can get that worked through.

Pippin is just wonderful in this chapter. He's so much the hobbit, but also very much the knight of Gondor, too.

I love this story and the way you write all the familiar characters. I also admire your creation of new ones for us to love, too.

Keep it coming.

GT.

Author Reply: Well, as Gandalf knew, they would have one of two reactions: they'd either be angry or amused. Fortunately for Legolas the amusement won out. And yes, you are right, Merry is quite stressed that morning. But he'll get over it.

I'm glad you like Pippin--he really is both, and manages somehow to remain true to his hobbity self while undertaking his duties as a Knight.

I'm so glad you are enjoying this--I had a good deal of fun writing it!

Oh yes. Be careful Pippin, be very careful! I did love the bit with Merry and Eomer. It is easy to forget the relative ages of the characters and to hear that Eomer is younger than Pippin was startling. I had to grin at the idea of legolas singing to the hobbits for eighty years!

Author Reply: Yes, Eomer is a year younger than Pippin in actual years. You often see characters remark about the Big Folk treating the hobbits as children--I like to think there was a little flip side to that, of the hobbits thinking of some of the Big Folk as younger (in terms of maturity) than they actually were, because of their years. Of course at twenty-nine, Pippin is about eighteen and a half in human years, while at twenty-eight, Eomer is more like about a forty-five year old hobbit. Still, Merry's heart is in the right place, and he knows his King needs comforting.

Well, yeah, fortunately the hobbits found it funny too, and weren't too mad at Legolas. But once more it shows how differently an immortal like an Elf, sees time in relation to the mortals.

And just trust Pippin...
