Now this is nice! A very realistic look at how Faramir and Aragorn might have gradually developed their friendship. I like the Lady Haleth. I don't exactly *like* Lady Morwen, LOL! but I appreciate her as a very well-done OC. Haven't we all known old harpies like that? I would not mind seeing more of them both. A sweet story! Author Reply: Morwen is modeled on Mrs. Bennett in "Pride and Prejudice." I may very well include her in some future stories. For example, imagine some conversations between her and Captain Thorongil. Or Denethor. Or Ecthelion. Yikes! Or trying to interfere in Faramir and Eowyn's marriage.... Faramir has always been one of my favorite characters, after Aragorn and Gandalf. I almost died at what Peter Jackson did to him in the movie. Nice to get a chance to counter that! I can see Aragorn trying to get away from an officious majordomo, but I have a hard time seeing him preferring a hard cot to a nice bed. That's the only quibble I have about your lovely treatment of the problems surrounding Aragorn's return. Nice characterizations, nicely handled. Gwynnyd Author Reply: Maybe I should detail that more. The point about the morning light in the room was supposed to be what jumps out at you. I'm so glad that you read my story. It was in part a diversion from a rather heavyweight piece, "The Sword of Elendil," which I am heavily revising. It is becoming very dark and angst-y. Stay tuned for an update soon! As you know, I am one of your big fans.

Aunt Morwen is more than a little irritating! Too like Denethor - but without the intelligence. Aunt Haleth is infinitely superior. I wish I could feel that she hadn't remained single for love of a passing Ranger of the North. Or maybe not. You're so right that somebody had to know Arwen was coming - or she would have had to sleep in a shed somewhere while the chiefs of protocol decided who outranked whom. And Faramir reckons that the Shieldmaiden and the Elf-Queen will get on well. I suspect he's right - and that they will intimidate the Mordor out of the other noble ladies of Gondor. I enjoyed this look at the ins and outs of settling in as king. I suspect that Arwen's arrival must have made it easier in so many ways! Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I was inspired by a wish to write something fun about all this personal turmoil; it took a lot of thinking to figure out how to do that. I hope it works. It would be fun to do a story someday about Arwen and Eowyn becoming friends and running circles around the court ladies--and their husbands too! Thanks for reading.
