Trivial Matters  by Thundera Tiger 18 Review(s)

Hee! Sometimes it's nice just to relax and have a bit of fun with our favorite characters. And we've all experienced those little mannerisms that, innocuous though they may be in themselves, are enough to drive even the most patient elf to distraction. Ah, I did like the way you opened this scene, with the description of Legolas' past accomplishments. Very nice.

Author Reply: Hey Lamiel! I'm glad you liked the opening scene. It was supposed to set up a couple of contrasts, but I'm not sure how well that came across. At the very least, though, it seemed to create a dual mood upfront that dissolved later into complete and utter inanity. But for a moment, we had the possibility of a serious story on our hands.

Inane indeed--but fun.

Author Reply: Hope the inanity wasn't too overwhelming! I'm pushing boundaries with this one, but I had too much fun writing it to just chuck it.

Hah! What a hoot! I adored this piece. I had saved reading it until I was at work to lighten up the day, and I'm sure I'm going to get fired for laughing too loud.
Legolas' resilience is truly remarkable. Of all "trivial" sounds, slurping one's drink has to be near the top of the most annoying list. It always drives me to distraction, and I wonder just how long in your mind Legolas had to endure this before his little outburst! Faramir and Aragorn's quick-witted reparte is beautifully written, and I love Faramir's parting jab.
It is wonderful to have such a light-hearted piece. I am desperately hanging on the end of 'Land of Light and Shadows', 'Fear No Darkness', and have resorted to reading and rereading 'New Year's Eve' whenever I need a good laugh. This piece, 'Hewing Naught but Wood' and the like have been keeping me most entertained in the meantime (though a new chapter to any of the aforementioned stories would be VERY much adored!).
All the best, and thanks for the riotous laugh,

Author Reply: Slurping has never been a big distraction for me. I just block it and I'm fine. But I have some friends and family members that can't stand it. It's really kind of funny to watch them, and I've purposefully slurped something just to get a reaction out of them. Evil, yes, but entertaining. And it struck me as something that Faramir and Gimli might try, too.

And I'll try to get out chapters on those WIPs you're waiting on. Many thanks for your patience!!!

Cute. I like Faramir's deceptiveness in staying sober most of all.

Author Reply: The sober aspect was kind of a throw-away element that I put in because I needed to justify the fact that he was still on his feet after several hours. But once it was in, I really liked it. Trust Faramir to cover all his bases.

LOL! Ah, our noble King and Steward have settled into a wonderfully trusting (yet teasing) relationship. And I just love this:

Aragorn laughed outright. "It is well that you usually labor for me rather than against me."

Author Reply: I was rather fond of that line, too, so I'm glad you liked it. My suspicion is that there was a healthy amount of respect for one another on the part of both King and Steward.

How to annoy king and elf in one easy lesson! Hilarious!

Author Reply: Thank you! Faramir's a crafty creature, and I figured that if anyone could do it, he could.

*Cackles* Wonderful! You set it up pseudo-seriously, and then ... yeah. :D Brilliant. :D

Author Reply: The pseudo-serious was supposed to set up a contrast for the rest of the story as well as introduce the contrast of big and little changes affecting people differently. I have no idea if that worked, but kudos for catching it!

Heeeee! Clever Faramir!

A fun, amusing story. Nice to see Faramir written with a sly sense of humor.

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm a big fan of Faramir, but I don't write him often. So I was trying to give him some good screen time. And I could see him developing a sly sense of just about everything, humor included.
