The Acceptable Sacrifice  by Larner 13 Review(s)
French PonyReviewed Chapter: 33 on 11/21/2005
The Two Faces of Aragorn: Healer and King. He's pulling off the balancing act nicely. He can go from being woken up in the middle of the night to be nice and kind and healing Strider, and then turn right around and be the lordly and dignified King Elessar. Aragorn's good at this game.

Frodo, however, is in really bad shape. I hope he improves a little bit. It must be awful just to be feeling sick and never really getting much better or worse.

Author Reply: Aragorn has had almost ninety years to think how he'll have to comport himself as King, and has had that long to see how Elrond and perhaps Galadriel and Celeborn handle it as well. Plus he had the examples of Thengel, Ecthelion, and perhaps in minor matters Denethor to see how those born and raised to the job of ruling handle switching roles. Am so glad you approve.

Frodo will get some better, but never fully recovers, as we already know.

Poor Frodo! That slimy wretch Angrapain has a lot to answer for, giving Frodo a setback like that. I hope that Aragorn throws the book at him, but good!!

How hard it must have been for Merry and Pippin to see Frodo like that, and then for him to order them out. He's apologized to Sam; I hope he takes thought for his cousins as well.

I loved the pomp again, with all the introductions of the foreign royalty! You do court so well! Are you sure you're not in the SCA? You'd make a great herald!

Let's hope Frodo gets to feeling a little better soon...

Author Reply: No, never got into the Society of Creative Anachronisms, although a friend dallied with it, although she was more into folk dancing. Did some spectacular exhibitions of court dancing and country dancing both.

I have read my share of medieval literature, of course. A herald? Can I be one from Valdemar? Where's my Companion?! Heh!

As I've said before, for Frodo recovery will be a staggering path, and he's just truly appreciating just how true this is. I haven't had him apologize yet to Merry and Pippin, but they do understand, I think.

Author Reply: I only suspected you've been busy getting caught up in school and cleaning up after the hurricanes. What kind of competition do you do? I was in a speech competition and was runner up; and in 4-H through high school, so know how things go.
