Birthday Surprises  by Baggins Babe 14 Review(s)

Well, of course I love the firework display from the West the most of all--Olorin himself seeing to it that Samwise son of Hamfast knows just how much he is loved and honored from afar.

Lovely, BB.

Author Reply: Ah yes, Gandalf would want to show Sam that he is loved in the West also. Glad you liked this part, which was no doubt inspired in part by your wonderful story. I like to think that Gandalf was able to communicate with Middle-earth in this way.

Yea, an update!! :)

Oh, what a wonderful, beautiful party! Fun, family, and dear friends are all that's needed to make these gatherings pleasant and unforgetable. Oh! And food, especially in the case of Hobbits! :)

"Had you known their true identities you would have all been on your best behaviour, and that would never do!"

Haha! I love it!

Jolly Cotton gazed at the Man, so full of kingly dignity, and glared at his brother-in-law and his unrepentant sister. "You knew he was the King!
And you let me steal the ball away from him yesterday! How could you, Sam?"

Sam allowed his mirth to spill over. "You should see your face! You're not going to be flung into the Lockholes you know. Strider don't mind - he
praised you for it, didn't he?"

"I'd never have done that if I'd known," said Jolly.

"Exactly!" said Aragorn, who had overheard the conversation and was very amused.

LOL! Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard over this! Finally, the long-awaited inescapable reaction! LOL!

As always I love the children-Persimmon is so cute! She reminds me of a couple of little girls I go to church with. :) "Mistress Mischief"--aww! :)

The speeches were very touching, especially Frodo's, and the gifts were very thoughtful. I always thought Sam had a bit of the healer's gift. Maybe it's that natural ability to care for and nurture, to comfort simply by being a firm, steady presence in the face of trouble.

Fireworks! How lovely! And how wonderful that Radagast could come and that dear Gandalf could give his own contribution, which, to me, was the highlight of the party.

Wonderful, BB!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: I agree, I think Sam had something of the healer's gift. That desire to nurture and care, and his solid, reliable presence undoubtedly contributed to this. Sam was definitely Frodo's rock.

I've always been fascinated by Radagast - after all, anyone loathed to that degree by Saruman had to be a pretty decent sort! I think Radagast would have stayed and worked at what he did best - communicating with the animals and birds and healing the hurts caused by Sauron.

Glad you enjoyed Jolly's reaction to discovering Lord Thorongil's identity! He'll never be allowed to forget it, will he?

I can't imagine a more perfect birthday, either!

"I thought Ithilien was beautiful but the Shire is perfect," murmured Faramir.

It certainly is, and made even more beautiful and beloved under your skillful pen, dear BB. What a lovely, wonderful story. It fills me with such joy.

Radagast! Rufus! Uncle King Estel! Feasting! Hobbit archers! Gandalf's gift!

:D

Author Reply: Thank you for your kind words, Shirebound. Thought I'd better get a move on or I'd be celebrating my own birthday before Sam had his!

I thought you'd enjoy this chapter - feasting, hobbit archers, wizards, Rufus and our favourite Ranger King buried under eager hobbitlings. What more could anyone ask?

Now I just need to do a mathom for everyone for my birthday next week...........

Talk about perfect timing. I was re-reading this lovely story when the e-mail notice came into my Inbox and w/great delight, I headed to this newest addition.

I *loved* this...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Uncle Estel!" a small voice cried, and Persimmon hurtled across the grass and threw herself at Aragorn. She wrapped her arms tightly around his calves and beamed up. "You've growed !"
He laughed and swung her into his arms. "I doubt I've grown since you last saw me, Mistress Mischief!" He did indeed look very tall and noble in a dark blue velvet tunic embroidered in silver thread with the White Tree and seven stars. His suede boots and breeches were the same colour and his hair was lightly braided at the sides in the Elven style.
Everyone smiled to see the Man with the little hobbit lass. Within minutes he had attracted more and could be seen walking around the Party Field with a following of younglings. Baby Lily squealed when she saw him, crawling across the grass at a rate and sitting on his boots until he picked her up. When he sat down he completely disappeared as they all clambered over him and settled for a story.
I could so see that in my mind's eye. Aragorn covered w/hobbit little ones. What a lovely and fluffy picture that is.
This was just perfect in so many ways. From the revelation of who the Lords Cirion and Thorongil were, to Radagast showing up, to the fireworks...Just everything made me feel so warm and fuzzy. Which considering Mom shared her cold from Mordor w/me is exactly what I needed.
Now don't be so long in the next addition to this wonderful story, although I have a sad feeling we're getting near the end of it. :o(
Author Reply: That certainly was good timing! Some people say I'm a witch. I surprise myself sometimes - perhaps I should go out later and polish my broomstick! :-))
Glad you liked the image of Aragorn covered in hobbit little ones. Had to give Sam a wonderful birthday because no-one deserves it more than Sam.
Yes, we are coming to the end of the story, but there are plenty more in 'Reunion-verse.'
Hope the cold from Mordor has given up and left by now!
