How long, I wonder, was it before they finally left? I get the feeling it was not long. And how long seperates this story and the most recent chapter of 'Reflections'? Celeborn's reflections, and his conversations with Thranduil and Elrohir were sad, but hopeful as well. They are all ready, or very nearly ready to leave - although Elladan is perhaps not sure yet. Does he see the strain in Elrohir, is he affected himself? I know Elrohir would never go if his twin did not. Thanks for the second story in a few minutes! Jay Author Reply: I really ought to do a timeline, so that I can answer these sorts of questions without relying on memory! Especially as I write more stories and my recall of the earlier ones becomes less accurate. This is set in autumn - I think the decision to go is made the following spring and they then pack up and leave for the Havens before autumn comes again, so they leave in less than a year. Between this and the latest 'Reflection' - h'mm. Probably a century or more. I'm allowing for them to take a decade or two to heal from the stress of their last years in Arda - another couple of decades to get round to courting - five to ten years before Elladan's wedding - another decade or so for Elrohir and Legolas to follow suit - ten years or so before Elrin was born. He is eight years (3 HE) older than Galenthil and Eleniel, and they are ten years (4 HE) older than Aewlin and Nimloth. By the latest part of 'Reflections', the terrible twins are about eighteen (7 HE). They are all at the point of acknowledging that they need to go - and that there is no point in remaining. Elladan is less certain, but has decided that he will do what Elrohir wants. (I read the last bit of Fallen Rain to remind myself what they said.) I was only going to put one up, but I acted on impulse! Thank you for reading. | |
