| O my dearest Dreamflower, thank you for sending me back to this ficlet! I can't recall if I reviewed it before - I hope I have, but if not, I am now. Dear, dear Sam, and all the family, what a disaster - I'm so sorry for Sam, Marigold, and all their sibs, but oh, the Gaffer must feel as though he's had half his heart ripped out! This explains why he would give over being gardener with Sam still so young. The work would be hard for him, shaken as he was, and it would give Sam something to steady him and focus his mind, plus more time with his beloved Master Frodo. I can't recall what 'apoplexy' is - a stroke? I hope Bell's death was, at least, painless for her. Also, how good of Bilbo to ensure the Gaffer and Bell's older sons would know sooner rather than later! Aunt Dora would approve!! (How is Aunt Dora, by the way?) Hugs, Kaylee | |

| Here's another scenario that never happened! As we all know, Bilbo is part Baggins and part Took, and that's why Gandalf chose him. What if the Adventure occurred 77 years later (when the Quest itself took place), and Pippin himself were to go on the Adventure as the Burglar? After all, he's as Tookish as they come! =) (Of course, Merry would insist on going with him, so at least he wouldn't be alone among all those Dawrves as poor Bilbo was.) | |

| That's so sweet! I love you hobbit stories. Since about a week or so I'm working my way through your stories and I'm astonished how well you capture the tenderness and belonging between the hobbits as well as the workings of their society. Through you work I found a whole new appreciation of Pippin, not that I didn't like him before, but he feels more of a "whole" person now. But I especially love Sam-stories. How he finds his place in the group of travellers (instead of below it) is just too touching. Thank you! Author Reply: Why, thank you very much, Robbie! It is always good to find a new friend, and someone who likes my stories. And it's always very nice to see a new review for an older story! I try very hard to figure out who the hobbits are. I like to take the clues we are given in the books about their personalities and work out how they became the persons they were in the story. I have always loved the friendship and loyalty and love between the four, so it is my delight to try and flesh it out a little, filling in the gaps that JRRT left for us.
