Wow. That was splendid. Elmo's destruction and loneliness - the thought of his spirit haunting ships. (St Elmo's Fire - how apt) The contrast with the sailors and the girl - cigarettes and beer and general sleaze - and the unearthly quality of the ghost story with the rain falling around the invisible and awesome figure. And then the rescue. Wow. Now I'm going to read it again. Author Reply: Thanks for the review, Bodkin! I like Modern Day stories with elves mostly because that contrast works so well. I loved the idea of all this going on on a modern battleship, and the irony of the fact that what we know is an elf would be a ghost to anyone else. I'm glad it worked! | |
