Oi... look how smitten those two are. Ok, maybe they make a great match :) So how long can Tarkil hide his sins under his cloak *grin*. I want to read more, but I need to sign off. Maybe you have to put up a warning saying: this story can be to addictive. Yes that is meant as a big compliment!

No no no... I must have misread... not Valandur!! *whimpers* I liked him. How much worse can it get for Tarkil, first he comes on to strong towards Poppi and then he gets this news.. I never expected such a thing from Angrim though and I am liking Gethron even more. This sounds like a backstory...

I am liking this story so far.. quite a lot. I feel like being swept away with Tarkil's experiences, what he goes through. This story has made me cry from laughter and sadness. Are you sure this is your first story? It is excellent!

Author Reply: What a great day it's been -- finding all your reviews on this story! Thank you so much for taking the time and the making the effort! I really appreciate it.

Promises to Keep IS my first story! And the readers on SoA have been so accepting of it that I'm overwhelmed.

I worried when I read your earlier reviews saying you liked Valandur that you'd get upset when you found out what happened to him. Sarn Ford was not the place to be that September :( And yes, there is a bit of a backstory between Angrim and Gethron and part of it is hinted at in my next story Two of Thirty-One. But finish this one first, LOL!

Oh my goodness. I just picked myself up from the floor from laughter! I totally agreed with Gethron, this was something I really wanted to see! And so well written. I like the tie-in back to Tarkil's promise to the little hobbit lass. How can there only be 10 chapters left? That is way too less for Tarkil's tasks and things he wants to do!

I am getting more and more curious about Gethron: who is he, what is his history? How old is Tarkil actually? I feel like a sponge, wanting more information about these two.

I loved the dialogue between Gethron and Tarkil. Even I had to chuckle when he announced he would go shopping. A ranger that goes shopping, shopping for a kiss maybe? Ah and then the letter from Haldon. What on earth can you do with such a brother. Can't wait to meet him in the story. As a desert we get Poppi's point of view. Her heart is full of men, one especially, but that one is off with 4 halflings. I wonder if she ever warms up to Tarkil. I am in a mix if I want to see anything happening between the two. One part of me says yes, the other says Tarkil might deserve a sweeter lass.. But I guess I have to stay tuned!

Author Reply: YAY YAY YAY! You are the first person who has commented that they understand it's Strider she's mooning over! Go Rhapsody! I only had one comment from a reader on another site who felt it was too confusing and didn't like Poppi's POV and suggested I take the whole thing out. So I REALLY appreciate getting your review saying that you 'got it.' You will get to meet Haldon a few more times in this story *chuckle*

As for Tarkil's age, I know how old he is but that won't be revealed for quite a while yet. Not in this story, nor in my next one Two of Thirty-One (although I just put up the latest chapter (#6 in 2 of 31) which will give a bit of a hint.) And I love Gethron -- he just appeared to me one day and demanded to be written into the story so he could help Tarkil!

Glad you're enjoying the story, I thought it had been buried under all the others and would no longer be read. Thanks for making my day absolutely fabulous!

Now that is a big twist... Poor Tarkil. First thinking that he could wind down for a couple of days and the next moment he finds himself issuing orders that nobody likes or actually want to follow... and end up wounded after a fight with Orcs. I am going like: poor Tarkil. Yes I am repeating myself.

The fight left me in confusion, but I bet it was the same for your main character. :)

Consider me sold, sealed and delivered to these ranger brothers. Especially after this part:

" “Humph, yes, ‘something’ disturbed me, and if ‘something’ disturbs me tomorrow morning at such an early hour, ‘something’ will find itself doused with a bucket of muck from the stables when ‘something’ least expects it,” Valandur grumped. "

It sounds exactly like one of my brothers to the other. Perfectly written! It made me laugh so hard.

This part is great as well:
He found himself suddenly angry with his brother and turned his attentions to his tea, wishing he had ordered an ale. It is easier to glower at someone over a tankard rather than a teacup, he thought. He cursed the bandages on his hand when the cup nearly dropped from his grip.

Oh, I know for sure that I will love this story!

What a deep plunge into the story... and I loved every single line of it. It makes me want to read fast and go quickly to chapter 2. So I have to restrain myself and not do it.

I love the way how you describe things, for example:
"The doors to the barn stood open as did the animal pens – the animals scattered. The barn, eerily lit by the dancing light of the flames, was quiet after the roar of the burning house. Towards the back, several barrels were overturned, spilling their aromatic contents of pipe weed across the floor."

The barn is in contradiction to what is happening to the house. The house is on fire, produces a noise, where the barn seems to be a place of silence.

So I won't delay myself and quickly read chapter 2..

WHAT. that's the end? ah, surely not really the last we'll hear of tarkil and co. I see that you've begun another story. Mayhap it will carry on the story for me. I do adore this story. Great job. I'm way exhausted or i would be more eloquent. Huge clappings!

Author Reply: LOL, it's the end of this particular section. I wanted to keep Tarkil's journey south separate from the romance with Poppi, so I've divided the story up. I am currently working on more Tarkil stories. The next -- of Tarkil and Haldon's experiences in Gondor -- will be put up soon, I'm just waiting for my betas to go through it for a final time with a fine-toothed comb. It's is called 'Two of Thirty One.' And I have a few more single chapter stories coming out shortly as well, one of which feature Tarkil as a very young boy. I'm so happy you enjoyed this story ... your reviews have really kept me going and given me confidence! Thank you for taking the time to leave them.

You have to write more!!!!

This has been a wonderful story. I am so glad that Tarkil found the men that killed Lilly's family and was even able to return that locket to Lilly. I am getting sucked into wondering about rangers and the Dunadain. I have just finished reading the Silmarillion, talk about a book chock full of plot Bunnies, anyway all that has me curious.

I hope you will write about what Tarkil does in the war. What does Poppie do?

I really love your characters. I can tell in how you write them that you know each of them well, and care for them. I have thoughrally enjoyed reading this and I am looking forward to reading more of your work in the future.

Woo-hoo!! Finished your first fic! Congratulations! Especially for one so well done. Your plotting is interesting and well-woven with no loose ends, and your pace keeps the story moving along. You know I've fallen in love with your characters, Tarkil, Gethron and most especially that rascal Haldon .... well, I'm not too sure about that little wench Poppi. *G* I thinks she's aiming pretty high to think she can get her hooks in a Ranger. Maybe Tarkil will find some pretty maid while he's in the south that would be more suitable *wink*. I appreciate you letting me tag along with your adventures. Don't wait too long to start posting Two of Thirty-One.
