Free to a Good Home  by Ithilien 14 Review(s)

This was just delightful, and I recognized many "truths" as a fanfic writer. What a wonderful way of working through unrequieted plot bunny desire! (Err, so-to-speak). I was a little taken aback at the snarky hobbit writers though. Are we really seen like that? Yikes.

Have fun with your new stage of writing just for yourself. (I loved your line: "That idea was tantalizing for it would free her of all the silly games she played to garner more reviews.")

I was halfway between tears and laughter through most of this story - and oh my, the ring of truth strikes very close to home indeed. Sweet Valar, I want to see those Elladan/Legolas/Elrohir bunnies fleshed out. Oh yes. I was laughing so hard at what they were doing in that cage together. And Saruman-Gandalf-Radagast nearly burning down the garage, ha! Laughed and laughed.

Most of the time I was pleading with the protaganist, "Karen," - don't do it! Don't give them up! Don't leave us! We need you! We need good authors, mature authors who speak in complete sentences and write stories that make us think beyond our usual boundaries. But the moral is a good one, I guess, and the point is well taken. Our fandom is richer for the giving of the plot bunnies - may they multiply ever more.

The story itself is brilliant. Love the build-up of suspense, wondering just what was going on with that sign out front. I was very tempted to scroll ahead to find out what was happening, but I resisted. And I'm glad I did. Really, as a fan and an author, I found it so moving. Balancing Real Life and fantasy is not always easy, especially when one has family to take care of. But, if I may say, the fantasy IS important. Whether the outlet is in fanfic or something else, an imagination like this cannot be stifled. We can indulge our obessions, just a little, and still be good providers/parents/responsible people. There's no reason at all to feel guilty about it. And, like I said before, the fandom needs authors who care enough to write it right. And good Elf worshippers are all the more important, in my humble (and blatantly Elf favoring) opinion. SOMEONE has to give poor Legolas a respite from the Mary Sues.

So. Wonderful, creative, original idea, and beautifully executed. The bit about calling out Legolas name? Ha! And, oh, this line, '"I do like it when you call me your Aragorn."
She smiled as well. Never mind that in moments like those she was imagining slashier thoughts. He didn't need the details so long as he was satisfied with the results.' Ha ha! Laughed and laughed.

Oh, I hope that you do stay with us for a long, long time, Ithilien. Whether under that name or any other, these are some bunnies worth fleshing out. And though you may be able to give some away, few authors could develop them as well as you.

P.S. Loved the snooty Hobbit fanciers too. And the Sues. Oh, you've captured this fandom's divisions to a T.

This was great! What an idea!

Ah, Ithilien, I read this a few days ago on ff.net. Wonderful - but I do hope you're not giving up? Releasing the plot bunnies is fine, but do keep a few for yourself!

Can I make an offer for the Elladan/Elrohir/Legolas bunnies please?

Jay
