Thank you for that moving glimpse into what must have been a very painful farewell. Such a gem as this is rare indeed. :)

Author Reply: And thank YOU for such a lovely review! It must indeed have been very painful for them both, even though they knew that they would be reunited again. I'm glad you liked it and I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know. :-)

I find this to be one of the most convincing portrayals of sea longing that I've read. It must be like being called home, for healing and the satisfaction of our better desires. But still, leaving those one loves has to be hard.

I think my favorite moment was actually when Thranduil recalled little Legolas asking his father if he would be lonely when Legolas went to spend the night with a friend. This situation is actually very much like that, I think. Thranduil (whom I adore) has his trees for now and eventually will have his family again.

Author Reply: Thank you, daw. The sea-longing is fascinating to me. I was trying to remember that even though the desire to go to Valinor was awoken in such a painful way in Legolas, really it is a call home and all Elves know that it is the fate intended for them.

I admit I was a bit nervous about writing Thranduil. I had intended to look at what it meant for him to remain while so many left but he ended up just trying to reassure Legolas... I'm glad you liked the bit about little Legolas. As painful as it would be for Thranduil, I think he's wise enough to know that it is a temporary parting. Thanks again for a lovely review.

This story should definitely have a tissue warning included. Though there have been many stories of Legolas leaving Middle Earth, this one had a quiet desperation of a father saying goodbye to his son and knowing that much time would pass before seeing him again. The description of the parlor with the embroidery on the chair and the children's books on the shelves gave even more depth than words of what Thranduil has lost in the long battle with darkness. A very good, *sniff*, tale of farewell.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, rikki. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate you picking out what you thought worked well. I had originally intended this to focus on Thranduil rather than Legolas but felt it got away from me a bit so I'm thrilled that you can feel what the moment meant for Thranduil. Thanks :-)
