GamgeeFest's Keepsakes  by GamgeeFest 453 Review(s)

Ah, yes, more amunition to fight the chauvinist!Boromir. You did a great job on this. Good job at developing Boromir's character in just a few short paragraphs. It's really sad that lots of people don't like Boromir just because of what happens in that first movie. So, thank you, this is a boon to all.

Author Reply: I understand the temptation to write Chauvinist!Boromir. Boromir is a complex character and it takes some time to really understand him. This is one place where I think the movies actually improve upon the books - Sean Bean's performance was spot on and gave life to a character that, in the books, always seemed a bit flat to me.

How wonderful. Every word of this drabble is just perfect, Gamgeefest. I believe that Boromir's thoughts would have gone in exactly this direction. He truly redeemed his honor.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Shirebound!

It took me a while, and many discussions on message boards, to understand this aspect of Boromir's character, but I love him for it. He must have been aghast at his actions towards Frodo; protecting Frodo's kin was the least he could do. And yes, he did redeem himself and was able to die with the honor he always regarded so highly.

I loved it. If you make it any better then the rest of us will be forced to go off and improve out stuff. Way too much work if you ask me. I loved hos this speaks to Boromir's sense of honor.

Author Reply: *blushes* Thank you, though I don't see how any of your stuff, or anyone else's, could be much better that it already is. :)

Boromir's honor and duty were the primary focus here and even focusing on just that, it was difficult to keep it within word count. Duty is no small thing for Boromir, who grew up serving his city so faithfully. His realization that he had nearly threw aside everything he believed in and was honorable to him was a sore trial for him. I'm glad he was able to redeem himself in the end.

Wow!! I'm at loss for words. So much said for so few words. :) Excellent writing!

Author Reply: Thank you! With only 100 words, I had to really condense this down and focus on the most primal of all Boromir's thoughts in that moment: his sense of duty and valor. Needless to say, it wasn't easy! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading. :)

oh my that was amazing and very profound~
i love it .. you're a great drabbler--would love to hear more from yOU! =)

Author Reply: Thank you! And it's so good to hear from you! *hugs*

It was hard to squeeze Boromir's last thoughts into 100 little words, but well worth the effort. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Cute, cute! Gotta love that Bilbo, what? the old rascal! *gggg*

Author Reply: Thank you! Bilbo is quite the scamp, isn't he - always ready and willing to lovingly tease for the sake of pancakes, lol. Thanks for reading. :)

Oh, that was sweet. Aww, cute little Sam, going to the door to check for Elves. *shakes finger at Bilbo* What a thing to do to a little kid! And just for some pancakes, too! I don't believe it. Well... actually, with Bilbo involved, I do believe it. Anyway, great job as usual. It's always a pleasure to read your work.

Author Reply: Yes, Bilbo is quite the scamp. Now we know where Frodo learned it from, lol. I'm sure Bilbo was just concerned that the pancakes might go bad if they sat out too much longer. *halo*

Poor Sam, so eager to greet the Elves, only to find no one there. He'll wise up to Bilbo's tricks soon enough, or follow up on Frodo's advice and take the food with him! Bilbo won't try that trick again after that. ;)

Would our Bilbo do such a thing to poor little Sam? What a trick to play!

Love the devotion from Sam at obviously such a young age.

Author Reply: Yes, I think Bilbo can have quite a wicked sense of humor at times and he simply couldn't resist playing with Sam a bit.

Sam's devotion here is more rooted in what his father expects of him while he's being tutored by Bilbo, but there is the beginning of that fierce loyalty we come to see in him later. It won't be long before he's telling his betters (Pippin, in this case) to stay away from Frodo's food. :)

Oh, yes, our Sam. Love Rosie's point of view as well.

Author Reply: Rosie knows her Sam. She's always appreciated him and knew his worth, even when he didn't.

Adorable. Sam is wonderfully serious, and has so much to learn about the teasing way of Bagginses! It's so sweet to see his devotion to Frodo.

:D

Author Reply: Children that age are always so serious about such things, lol. They haven't quite developed the sense of humor needed to know when others are having a laugh. And Bilbo - just wicked to take advantage of that! ;) It won't take Sam to wise up though.

Sam has always been devoted to Frodo, though that devotion matured and changed over the years. Now, he's just concerned about seeing to Frodo the way his father no doubt tells him he has to be. The fact that Frodo is so kind and gentle with him only makes Sam want to please him more.
