Poor Merry, I hope he feels better soon. I am glad that Pippin seems to be getting his memories back. Looking forward to more.

Author Reply: Thanks. Merry is going to be feeling better soon. He is back amongst his friends and they will be taking care of him now. :)

Gosh, I do love this story. I'm so glad Aragorn knows that Merry isn't well. Stubborn hobbit! And this is terrific... "shouting loud enough to wake the trees." What a perfect thing for an elf to say!

Author Reply: Aragorn is here to save the day. He'll put Merry to rights and have none of this 'I'm fine' nonsense. I'm glad you're continuing to enjoy this :)

Poor Merry's been through the ringer worrying about all his friends. It's not surprising that he snapped. Probably the best thing he could have done. Aragorn should encourage him to speak of his dreams though. Maybe Pippin will be able to help there. Good to see Pippin getting some memories back, even if they are a bit jumbled up. That's to be expected. Hopefully, the memories won't shock him too much as they come back. Still no word on Frodo and Sam. Will Merry be finding out their fate soon? That would do much to ease his mind.

Author Reply: Don't worry, Merry hasn't forgotten about Frodo and Sam. He was just very focused on Pippin and then he got sick before he could do the next thing on his list, which was ask about Frodo and Sam. He doesn't really think Aragorn knows anything about their fate, but he knew that Aragorn would know what had happened to Pippin.

As worried as Merry is about Pippin, I would think he'd ask about Frodo and Sam as well. But maybe he's afraid to ask, fearing that he will learn that his assumption that they're dead will be confirmed. Even if he didn't ask though, I'm surprised Aragorn didn't give him some information about them. Memory loss can be common with head injuries. Pippin must be confused and frightened of all the strange men about. Loved the comment about Queen Beruthiel's cats.

A hobbit without an appetite is definitely something to worry about. He's literally worrying himself sick. It was good of Faramir to give him a pony. Merry's been feeling like useless baggage for so long, at least he didn't have to worry about being someone's burden on top of everything else he's dealing with. What a horrible nightmare. I hope Merry won't suffer too many more once he arrives at Cormallen and finds his friends are healing.

The image of the eagle giving news of the end of the war was inspired. The people of Gondor must have celebrated that message. What a horrible message for Merry to receive. It's natural he would automatically assume the worst. To think that he's the lone survivor of the hobbits must be terrible for him to have to endure.

It's good of Merry to help his comrades by talking to them and easing their pain as much as he can, even if it's not much. Enjoyed the conversation between Faramir and Merry. I often wondered if Faramir ever spoke to Merry to try to get information on Eowyn. You handled it wonderfully.

A lovely "final" breakfast for our two friends. Pippin has matured a lot since arriving in Minas Tirith, and in some ways is more mature than Merry. But Merry will always be the one looking out for him. It must pain him terribly to be getting left behind again.

Oh, I'm worried about Pippin and Merry but at the same time this chapter realy cheered me up. How very like Pippin.

Author Reply: Poor Pippin's had a rough time (almost as bad as Merry) but now that his cousin is by his side, I think he'll recover quickly. I'm glad this chapter cheered you up. :)

Poor, poor Merry! Poor, poor Pippin! I'm glad you didn't have him forgetting Merry, too; forgetting dear friends Leggy, Gimli, and Boromir is bad enough. Can't wait to see where you go with this one. Love the head injury angle; never seen it before. Looking forward to more chapters, and soon! Pretty please with a hobbit on top?

Best,
Pips

Grey Wonderer has done an excellent Pippin Amnesia!fic ('Thinking of You' I believe is the title) but it is set pre-Quest when Pippin is quite young. I don't know if I've seen any other amnesia fics either.

I'm working as fast as I can on this but as I'm not really capable of sustained bouts of creativity, it takes a while to get anything decent nailed down.
