The Shipwright Shrugs  by Kitt Otter 23 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 7 on 10/15/2013
I'd never taken thought that Elrond, Galadriel, and Cirdan might have not pushed the advice to destroy the One Ring in order to sustain the powers of the three Rings they held. Definitely food for thought! And it is good to know that Legolas and Gimli came to Cirdan for advice at the end.

Author Reply: I’ve never been satisfied with Elrond’s abridged version at the Council. Complicated things, Rings!

I was eager to get to the end of this conversation and confirm who the visitors were, and wasn't disappointed. This is a marvelous, perceptive piece, and no doubt Cirdan has given much thought to all of these matters.

In time it became a burden. I felt young, too young, and too old... It had a fire, a demanding one!

That's so interesting.

Author Reply: Thanks, Shirebound, this came out of a lot of thought. I had meant to give the visitors some dialogue, but they were happier to stay silent! :)

Aha! Turnabout, I see! Heh!

Author Reply: Finrod isn’t above having a little revenge now and then!

Abandonment by brother, and left to watch over his nephews as if he were the eldest of them. It would be difficult to face in any case. I grieve that he never saw parents or brother again, or not in a recognizable form.

Author Reply: This was more angst than I usually dabble with. Círdan’s character moves me deeply because he survives through age after age but loses everyone he cares for most.

Oh how I feel for Cirdan.

Author Reply: Same! High places are for birds and squirrels!

This was spectacular! ROTFL And who would have ever thought Cirdan's 'real' name would be so appropriate for this Ark-tale!

I loved the mice in the pockets and all the little things that made me giggle.

Very nicely done......

However -- I could not help but think that Yavanna's song might be a little ditty entitled, The Unicorn Song. Do you suppose....??? That had me laughing even harder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4bc9UwZsYs

Author Reply: Oh yes, yesyesyesyes! Them silly unicorns!

This was awesome, besides being fun. I know exactly how Thingol felt. (Now there's another twisty named person - with Turgon no less!)

I cut and pasted the poem to help me when I've run amok with a story and put Fingon instead of Finrod.

Thanks ever so much for the not-so-good-with-rhyme poem. It does what it was supposed to do.

Author Reply: Thanks much, Agape! Cirdan would be pleased!

Most interesting exchange, and to think that Nowe did break those three promises. Interesting dynamics to this family.

Author Reply: Thank you Larner! I think Nowe was not one to sit on his bum and twiddle his thumbs, and promises do get stale after a few hundred years!

Poor Snitch--he is rather clueless, isn't he? Love the reaction to the order of importance offered them! Heh!

LOL! Very good!

Author Reply: Thank you, ellie! :D
