Oh I loved this! Had wondered what on Arda had happened to Erestor in Valinor. Very happy to have this gap filling with Rostaro :)

FIRST allow me to apologize profusely for not responding to your review in a more timely manner. I have been offline, just now looking through my email from the past two weeks.

Thank you so very much for the review!! I never expect old stories to get new comments. This is a very pleasant surprise! I hope you find the rest of these dusty chapters entertaining. I did intend for more, but like many I have been on a long hiatus.

Definitely a reckless pair they make. Am not certain what was going on there, but I can appreciation the fascination these two felt.

And you have read on! :D

Religious mysteries are like that... ;) Thank you again for reviewing!

Aha! Sounds as if this proved to be a most productive interview on both sides. Now, to read more of your stories.

Interesting way for Elrond to meet Glorfindel! I love looking at how Elrond thinks. I wonder what he did when he figured it all out?

Thank you for the review! They are much appreciated!

I love getting into character's heads. After he found out, I am sure he laughed at his mistake. In private... ;)

daw the minstrelReviewed Chapter: 5 on 8/27/2011
I started reading this earlier today and then Mr daw dragged me away to Do Stuff. What a great first meeting! And really, who could blame Elrond for the mistake he makes?

"Lock up your daughters." LOLOL

Wow! Thank you! Ths was great!!
Elrond immersed in clerical duties made me laugh for some reason.. It's not a usual setting for him and also hit the nail with my own upcoming new dties which will also involve no doubt a lot more paperwork than I would love! So this was perfectly appropriate! :-)

This world is so perfetly created in your mind that is full o details and atmosphere. From the way Elrond considers the warrior, to his political views and machinations and considerations, the tone perfectly matches that of CSING, this could be a lost chapter in that tale! IT all has a kind of moliére-esque flavour to it that is wonderfully achieved, and Glorfindel with "dandified hair and trendy clothes" really made me howl. The banter, the wager, Celeborn´s punch-line that I was awaiting eagerly... all is delightful.

And then the moment when Elrond, full of self-confidence, admonsishes him to get rid of "that" Glorfindel... LOLLOL. That was priceless. I could picture Glorfindel´s face, and his quick decision...almost as if he saw an opportunity adn grasped it without thinking.. being rid of that... This and That, indeed. A very interesting idea, I loved it.

And, the constant mentions to This GLorfindel somehow made me think of Dune's character Duncan Idaho and his endless, countless iterations and his staunchless loyalty to the house atreides... well, all in all, simply wonderful! a great reminder of that story that is still awaiting resolution back in Celebrimbor`s halls! :-)

I'm sad to admit that I won't be able to meet my deadline. The weeks have ben short and full of other things that really didn't stole my brains. But I´ll do my best to finish it some time, since of couse I owe you my version, which is, no need to mention since you already guessed, terribly different from this one.

THank you very much for all the effort you out in finding time to do this. It's also a reminder of the good times we've all had at this place. I really miss the inspiration to keep writing. THanks!

I am so glad! Happy Birthday!

One must remember this is early in his career as a mover of history. ;) That it touches on your new job is purely a coincidence! o.O

*g* The styled look is Glorfindels attempt to disguise himself as little as possible. Any sort of traditional or historical apparel would certainly lend rather than detract from similarities. I am so happy you were entertained by the details!

Well, you can see it from his point of view. Celebrity is not the same as authority.

Score!! I remembered that we have both read Frank Herbert, and it did flit through my mind. I will get back to posting CSING. I will, I will, I will.

Well, it was a wager between us, and my winnings are that you have a better excuse than I for not getting it done! You actually owe me two stories now...

Good times! So True!! You are so welcome! And thanks for the inspiration to post something at least once a year for your b-day!

I like this not-goat friendly place!

You know, I nearly forgot just how fond I am of Hrassa. Only *nearly* mind! /Yes, even them dwarves./ Hehe.

I enjoyed all this backstory on the wars with Sauron… details sorely lacking in Tolkien’s account. Celeborn on his deathbed! You scared me a second there!

And the politics here are delicious too… why, Gil-Galad is almost this sinister character… really, I always imagined all the ruffled feelings to be on Oropher’s side, but this is a fresh look at the matter… plus the idea the animosity extends even toward Celeborn and Galadriel.

Oh! So Glorfindel’s supposedly watching Turgon’s heirs. Interesting. Hah! No, I really can’t imagine Hrassa liking the flighty blond.

“And if you ever suggest such a thing again, I will punch you black and blue.” – without a doubt my favorite line. :)

By the way, Elrond’s proposal had me scared once again. Mrs Celebrain Gil-Galad! Too weird a thought...

I always love your romances – elegant, cute, surprising, witty… Celebrain had been luring him in the whole time! And Hrassa’s interspersed self-commentary was too funny. Finally! He’s officially Celebriain’s lapdog. ^_^

Hey there, Kitt Otter! Please forgive the late reply, but I was motoring to the Mid-West for my niece's wedding. And some vacationing as well. :)

Thanks for appreciating the elevated setting!

Despite nearly, Hrassa is blushing anyway. ;)

*g* For me, details are whats fun about fanfiction. The amateur engineering of the Professor's wonderful designs. Yep, Celeborn nearly expired (in my universe) as a reasonable reason for the couple's essential retirement to Dol Amroth until their subsequent necessary return to Lothlorien ere it disintigrated.

Let's face it: Gil-galad never had it easy. I really think of him as one tough guy, constrained rather than enabled by his crown. The power of which was reduced through being passed down again and again in a relatively short period of time and finally to a youth - each time losing a little more command with the Exile nobles. If one resents being obliged for obedience from other apparantly not earned by one's own merits, it can be irritating.

Watching over his prince's family was my reason for Glorfindel to want to return to Middle-earth and carry-on fighting. In a way, Hrassa and he are both in the same profession, so Hrassa does have grounds to critisize him. But, also to like Glorfindel as a fellow agent of his own House. (which will merge someday, at that)

The lady can take care of herself. ;) At least until her children became her focus, and then all her care will be for them.

Well I suppose, those that see Gil-galad as Fingon's son are not so weirded by the thought. Then, the kinship would be the same as Galadriel and Celeborn's. Then again, she just belongs with Elrond, doesn't she.

Thank you so much for saying that! I really think Elrond knew what was going on, but was torn because of his friendship with the King. Plus, his personal wish to stay in Imladris. And his sudden realization about the nature of his love for Celebrian. Hrassa is part and protector of his family, just like Glorfindel. Lapdog! *hilarious laughter* Don't let him hear you say that! ;D

Thank you so much again for reading and reviewing! It is always always much appreciated

Thank you very much! This was an unexpected treat! -)

Hehehe, I don't remember said comment but it must have irked you to no end, to celebrate my birthday with a whole chapter of bashing my favourite elf king in revenge! So I now hastily apologize for whatever thoughtless comment I may have made, LOLOL!! ... poor guy, really.

Anyway, I enjoyed Hrassa's pov here as always, how he's got Elrond measured up, how he enjoys his discomfort at heights, and then how he worries like a good-old chaperon when they're getting so close to each other amidst their heated discussion... :-) Poor Hrassa. Things really have a way of going exactly where he wouldn't like them, and I suspect that given free rein, he would surely get things ordered in middle-earth.. and Celeborn back on his feet in no time, to shake some common sense into the princess, LOLOL! She did manage to startle him as always! :-)

“Continue to be Erienion’s unfailing ally and friend, if you wish. That would be your right as a Lord. But, as said before, it should be on no one’s terms but your own. ” While she really acted like Elrovail before, she now shows how young and far from her mother's political skill she still is. First because friendships and alliances can't be established on one side's terms, alone, so to keep in good terms with Ereinion Elrond will have to reach common grounds, not on his terms alone, and second she is imposing her own terms to Elrond, in telling him he has to go on his own alone... so the little lady's still learning her game and it shows, not that Hrassa will disagree with her bold stance here! :-)

All in all, I consider myself delightfully chastised. It was great to see another tale from you. Thank you very much indeed! I've been missing these stories! :-)

Author Reply: Yes, I should think this was very unexpected considering how little I have posted lately. :/

But goodness, I was not chastising you for some comment per se! Your memory is not that gone away! I apologize for giving you that impression. I thought you might think that I forgot your birthday. That's all. ...still... I like how that miscommunication worked out. ];}

I am always glad when you enjoy Hrassa being an involved observer. Henchmen come in shapes and sizes, I think. But for me, he is of a special kind.

As an experienced negotiator, you know more about political horse-trading than the average person. Celebrian's tactics in this particular situation are what the are: directional. And personally, I don't think she should aspire to her mother's political skills. They seem to me to be much about self-aggrandizing. As to Gil-galad's negotiating skills, he did not seem able appease and retain a whole segment of the his Umaryar subjects. Besides that - *stopping before I get started* Certainly, Celebrian and Elrond, having buddied up, stand to learn a lot together about swimming in global political waters.

Again, I apologize for making you think this part of a old debate. I was just rifting on an old idea of mine for your entertainment. I do hope to get busy finishing up some unfinished pages this fall.

Happy Birthday, Perelleth! And Many Happy Returns! :D

I ment to write quite some time back to tell you how much I liked this story. Aragorn thoughts and actions after the leave taking of Celeborn and Galadriel, and seen by one of his rangers, was just wonderful to read. Soory it took me so long to get back to you.

Author Reply: Hey, a review is always welcome, anytime!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Elven in-laws must be freaky, no question. I like your Aragorn. He’s very much the King and Ranger, “his long legs crookedly stretched out before him”. His moods between sulk and mirth were shown crisply well too. And he’s actually promised to cut down on the pipe-weed???

The perspective here was different – for fanfiction in general, though it’s your forte – that Celeborn was one to respect, that his words were something to treasure, rare as they were. (It makes me think now that Galadriel does *too* talking. :P) The parallels you draw between Boromir and Celeborn’s leadership and Aragorn and Celeborn’s ah, what is the word, princeliness? Hmm. Well, for one, how the both managed to marry Elven Princesess seemingly above them.

Rámon was sweet. His humor, loyalty and curiosity were just what melancholy!Aragorn needed. I liked how defensive and warm he felt about Boromir.

My earlier comment was a bit hasty. Elven in-laws can be great if you have the time to think over what they say. (Or maybe Aragorn’s problem here was thinking too hard…?)

Thanks for this study of Celeborn. I’ll have to look more closely at what he says from now on. ^_^

Author Reply: *G* I am very glad you like Aragorn in this. I actually do think he would cut back on the smoking at Arwen's request. Especially if she mentioned it would not be acceptable around their children.

"your forte - " Thank you, I shall take that as a compliment! And Galadriel does get flowery on occasion and tries to make nice between parties - just as any good queen should. That was one of their most important duties in medieval times. When it came to the brothers, Boromir was necessary for Ramon's reference, but Faramir was always mine. For one, just the reason you point out yourself. But of course, if one can see the congruity Faramir has with Aragorn, then it is no leap to see that same congruity between Aragorn and Celeborn. I now see Celeborn as a royal prince (unlike Elrond as the royal lord of Imladris - ringbearer or no) representing the actual pattern Aragorn is being shaped upon. Denethor and Theoden could not be used in the same way, except as contrast. For in the LOTR, the long defeat had already taken a terrible toll on them that would lead to their demise. Aragorn had to win. Although, he is still mortal and must face loss and death at the end of his own reign. There are other aspects of Celeborn's behaviour that both Faramir and Aragorn also affect in the story, if one looks.

You describe Ramon, friend to his lords, very well.

I think you and Ramon are right in saying Aragorn was thinking too hard. Look where it got him, at least temporarily... ;)

Celeborn does not have a lot of scenes in the story. Nonetheless, he is there as certainly as are Arwen and Thranduil(wordless except through Legolas).

Thank you very much for the kind review. They are always appreciated.
