The Weather Outside is Frightful  by Radbooks 15 Review(s)

Thank goodness we are able to receive email notifications once more! I received mine in bundles last night. No doubt, you have received a notification of the review I sent you last August, and now you should receive a notification of this one as well.

BTW, Radbooks, I sent a couple of PMs to your Fanfiction.net account last month, after you responded to my August review. Hopefully, FFN has not developed the same glitch that SoA had for so long!

Thank goodness Aragorn found Merry and Pippin when he did! Otherwise, they might well have frozen to death. At least Aragorn was able to help them find shelter for the night. What a sight they all must have been when Glorfindel and Legolas joined them, especially when Legolas had to wear Aragorn's stinky clothes! =)

BTW, I've read your FFN story, "In Aragorn's Safekeeping," and its sequel. They're both great stories! I hope you'll return to writing Tolkien fanfiction one of these days. In the meantime, now that Stories of Arda is under new management, maybe you could post your 2 "In Aragorn's Safekeeping" stories here. Of course, you'd have to get permission from the administrators first, but it's possible to get that permission now, whereas it wasn't before.

Author Reply: Thanks for your PM, Kathy! I did miss this - thank you for taking time to review. Thanks so much for your kind words about my 'Aragorn's Safekeeping' series. I have noticed that they are allowing some modern day type stories now and I've thought about asking, but I'd want to really revise my stories - mostly the first one - before posting it here. That was my first ever story and I see so many problems with it now. :) I do hope to write again someday... life has just been full of ups and downs the past few years so hopefully things will smooth out soon. Thanks again!

This was a wonderful story! I really enjoyed the mix of characters you don't often see, including Asfaloth. :-) I enjoyed your take on Legolas too... it was very much as I have often pictured him.

Thanks so much for writing!

I don't know how I missed this last year. It is delightful. Thank you!

That is a very cute story, nicely done. It is a story that will bring a smile to the face of its readers. Good Job!

Author Reply: Thanks so much for your very kind words!

Those brave hobbits - saving Asfaloth like that. (Glorfindel might find himself being herded into a stream if his horse ever hears that version of the story.) I like the growth of the bonds of friendship and understanding among them all.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for reviewing. I did make sure that Asfaloth was well away before Glorfindel 'explained' what had happened and I doubt a single elf there believed his story anyway, so I think Glorfindel is safe enough. :)

Finally, I had the time to read this story. I love it. I think you have all the characters nailed. The hobbits are so hobbity, So, typical for Pippin to start something without thinking it through and Merry just following Pippin.

I loved the way you describe Aragorn and Legolas getting to know each other. That is a different tack than in a lot of stories where they are long friends.

And the star of the story is Asfaloth. He steals the show.

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing my story and your very kind words. While in my 'Safekeeping' stories I show Aragorn and Legolas as longtime friends, I don't think that they were in the books. It was really fun writing Asfaloth, he definitely had a mind of his own.

A delightful story.
It is a nice change when someone keeps to the most likely canon explanation of how Aragorn and Legolas met.
I especially loved the horses here.

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. It was fun writing Asfaloth, I've never written a none human character like that! :)

Loved this story, Pippin was quite right to want to thank Asfaloth, and the horse was quite right to want to take a little stroll. How else would one get a naked elf into a ranger's clothes.

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing, grumpy, I'm glad you enjoyed the story. It just seemed like such a Pippin thing to want to do and everything flowed from there.

Yep, I enjoyed this tale very much. It met the criteria of the challenge very nicely without hurting the plot. Well written and a keeper.
