| Nanny McPhee in Hobbiton! What a hoot. LOL. I love both movies. She'd be great with the Hobbit children. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Shepherd's Pie. Unfortunately that's a lot to make for one person who's freezer is too small to hold much. Wish you lived closer to me. Maybe I could talk you out of a piece. I bought a Shepard's Pie dinner at one of our local restaurants. Yuk! They so don't know how to make it. Author Reply: I had the good Nanny appear earlier in this collection in "Why Mums and Dads Leave Home," and found that this particular challenge led me to extend upon that story a bit. I, too, loved both movies, and I've always loved the Mary Poppins books, since I was seven, I think! Travers left us such a wonderful character in the person of Mary Poppins, and I love Jane and Michael as well. I enjoyed the Disney adaptation, but face it--Julie Andrews just wasn't Mary Poppins! They had bad shepherd's pie at a restaurant? Oh, but that is too bad! I found a recipe in my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook and used it the first time I made it, but have come up with this one as a general guideline for when I make it for myself. I have only my son living with me, but I do have friends who love it, too, so I generally make it on a Sunday when I'm looking to spend the evening with them, and I usually make certain that another friend who lives alone gets a share as well. If you lived out here on the Olympic Peninsula I'd be glad to share it with you! Heh! Glad you enjoyed this! | |

| I suspect that they're related to Gandalf, as well. :) What an utterly delightful story. Oh, what a feast! And what a lovely, heartfelt, somewhat magical gift at the end. I truly enjoyed this. Author Reply: Well, such individuals as Mary Poppins and Nanny McPhee do appear to have a good deal of--authority--behind their work, don't they? Heh! Am so glad this pleased you so!
