Wow...great story! I'm so glad Elladan and Estel's relationship seems to be improving...the prequel to this story was rather upsetting to see that Elladan was keeping his little brother at arms length, refusing to show or acknowledge his love for Estel.

I'm so proud of Estel's accomplishments in this tale...slaying the troll and most especially helping his big brother to survive. He showed great maturity, calming himself and relying on his instincts to heal Elladan.

I hope there's a sequel...would like to not only see Elrond explain Estel's past and future destiny to him as Aragorn, but I would love to see a more loving and close relationship blossom between Elladan and Estel.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for reviewing Lisa! It makes me very happy to know that people are still reading and reviewing. :) There are indeed sequels to this. The first is "A Yearling Shoot", which you can read here, and after that comes my current WIP "Into the Wild", which you will have to read elsewhere (fanfic.net), if you are interested. As it stands right now things are very dark, but if you wish to see a close relationship blossom between Elladan and Estel, then I recommend that you keep reading and bear with me. ;)

Thanks again so much for taking the time to review!

I enjoyed this story tremendously. I loved your interpretation of Elladan and Estel's relationship, very different from that of many fanfic writers', and yet just as strong and believable. Your characters have great depth while remaining true to canon.

Again, my thanks for you sharing your talent with us. I will look forward to reading all of your work.

Ah, another intensely satisfying story! I thought about leaving a review after each chapter, but I found I didn't want to withdraw from the story itself by stopping to insert my own thoughts. It was far too enjoyable to just keep reading, although now that means I have to sift through all my impressions and try to respond sensibly!

The fight with the trolls was breathtaking, as was the unexpected cave-in, but the strength of this story definitely lies in the characters and what their experience reveals about themselves and each other. Elladan, poor Elladan! I feel like I've gotten a lot more insight into his character after reading this story. Such a swirl of emotions he's going through by the end of the tale, trying to sort through such an explosion of insight into his little brother and himself. I loved his vision of Estel as king... and the insight he gains from that into his own purpose in life. And Elrohir having to dance around telling the entire truth to Estel... I would imagine no elf would ever be more glad to make it back to Imladris and hand off that responsibility to Elrond!

My other "favorite part" was the way you have Estel discover his healing gift, and the confusion that he endures afterward. It would be startling in the extreme to discover that you have a gift that you only thought Elves like your foster father were given.

Your stories are giving me a lot of things to think about that I hadn't really considered before, with the twins, especially, but also with Estel. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

Author Reply: Thank you for another great review, Cairistiona! You are certainly giving my spirits a needed boost.

I’m so pleased that you enjoyed my characterization, as I've always felt that creating interesting, dynamic, and believable characters is the key to making stories that the reader is involved with and wants to continue reading. I am absolutely fascinated with the complexity of each character and of their relationships with each other, and I’m interested in exploring how individuals change (or, as I believe, in the case of pure-blood elves, don’t change) over time through their experiences and their interactions with each other.

About the fight with the trolls and the cave-in, I do not consider myself an “action” writer in the least, but rather regard such scenes as battles and torture scenes as a necessary evil to allow me to get back to my “true love”: the character development. :)

I’m so glad that I am giving you new things to think about concerning the twins and Estel, as when I started out writing, that was one thing I strove to do, to offer a hopefully fresh perspective on these characters.

Thanks again,

WOW! This story will remain dear to my heart. Not many stories touched me the way this did. Your portrayal of the brothers and their love for each other are so realistic. These are the Peredhel Twins as they should be, as well as Aragorn, and last but no least, Glorindel. Your description of them just made my heart pitter patter! So majestic they seem. They simply sprung out from the pages (I printed the story and will read again and again!) Oh MY Gosh...I might have a crush on all of them!
I already started out liking Elrohir, portraying the watchful and loving brother. But as I read on, your Elladan just became endearing to me. He is very complicated..a somber soul. I now have a better understanding of him in "A Yearling Shoot". A very powerful character.

I did not put this story down until I finished it (which was 11:30 P.M) BEautiful...the scenes were played out right there before my eyes. Love the story, but what I really enjoyed where the characters. You've truly made these characters believable and the reader does get to know them real well at the end of the story.

Must read on! I have more of your stories to read!

Thank you so much, RS, for your very kind and flattering review! Nothing pleases me more as a writer than to know that a reader felt so moved by my stories and so involved with my characters.

A major focus of my writing has always been my characters—I am fascinated with their strengths and weaknesses, their complexities, their peculiarities, all those many features that make each individual an individual. I am also very interested in developing the relationships between characters, and seeing how those relationships may change (or not change) over time and in different circumstances.

Anyway, I could go on about my beloved characters for a long time, but suffice it to say that I am glad that you enjoyed them and the story as a whole. I will admit that I too have developed a particular soft spot for Elladan over the course of my writing.

If you are going to read my other stories you may want to read them in chronological order (which is not the order I wrote them in): “Touch,” “To Give Hope,” “Answers and Questions,” “Day and Night,” and “I Will be Your Memory” (which was the second story I wrote, but I think still remains my personal favourite).

Anyway, thank you again for reviewing, it is most appreciated!

An excellent completion, as the three brothers begin to contemplate that the time of change is upon them, and they share much at this time.

Lovely!

Thanks so much, Larner, for reviewing all seven chapters in one day! Clearly you enjoyed the story, and I am glad to know that.

Actually, your reviews are quite timely, for just yesterday, after several months of not writing a single word, I finally got inspired to sit down and start writing the last chapter of my current fic. Knowing that people are still reading and enjoying my older stories is very motivating for me, so thank you again for taking the time to review.

I loved this little story, and so much potential for more. I think it would have been fascinating to find out exactly how the House of Elrond saw little Estel change into the man who'd be king. So of course you should keep going! What is Elrond's reaction to Estel's heroics? Guarded surprise or a sly smiling of knowing? Heh. Anyway, great work.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for taking the time to review! I'm glad to know you enjoyed the story.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your story. I love the interaction between the twins and Estel. Glorfindel was smart to bring Estel along. His brothers got to learn what he can do.

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing, grumpy. Reviews are always appreciated!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the interactions between the characters, and, yup, Glorfindel certainly is one wise ancient elf lord!

Such a relief for Elrohir! He has them both out safe and sound - and he can counsel the younger rescuee wisely, while leaving his older brother to the wisdom of Glorfindel.

It must be disconcerting for both of them - Estel to find that he can heal in a way that I daresay he only thought was possible for elf lords, and Elladan to realise that this might well be the heir for whom they have all been hoping.

Very symbolic sunset - at what is, in some ways, the beginning of the end.

Author Reply: You're right, both Estel and Elladan are in need of wise counsel and both have a lot to think about. It does leave much scope for a sequel.

Yes the sunset is symbolic, on more than one level. It does mark the beginning of one end, but also a new start.

Thanks for reviewing Bodkin.

this was a wonderful story! I really liked how you portrayed the elves and Estel, and think that you kept very true to Tolkien's world. Great storyline and very descriptive and colorful writing--I could picture it all happening in my mind's eye. You've done a great job--please, keep writing more!

Author Reply: I'm always happy to have a new reviewer! Thank-you for your kind comments, I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

I do have ideas for further adventures for Elladan, Elrohir and Estel, and hearing that other people are interested in reading more really does motivate me to get writing.

Thanks again,
