You have an amazing knack for suspense! I love Frodo playing Sherlock Holmes. And sending Pippin to ferret out the secrets of Gondorian society was brilliant.

Author Reply: *bows* Thank you very much! This was my first real suspense story, and it took me several days (and conversations with my good friend Jo) to set up a plot with enough twists to surprise, enough reality to convince - and enough complications to thrill my readers. But it is an enormous joy to write it!

He will find an unusual ally in the lady, I think. A lady already aware she's made a grave mistake in following her father's orders, and whose father's servants have made darker ones, and whose father has made the greatest mistake of all.

Author Reply: You know, the longer I'm writing this, the more I enjoy the development of Artanis' character. She is lost in so many ways, and that Frodo should be the tool to "redeem" her and make her see the right way to go seemed more than appropriate to me. Thank you!

Wow! Somehow I had missed this particular chapter! It's wonderful!

I love the way you have portrayed Merry and Pippin in this--absolutely in character, and each of them contributing something very important to the task at hand.

I was so touched by the exchange between Merry and Frodo--yes, that would be exactly what Merry *would* fear--a fear that, sadly *will* be realized. It must have been so hard for Frodo to realize how much pain he was causing this dearest of cousins!

And Pippin was lovely--his openness and curiousity an absolute asset in this case. No one would think anything at all of him asking questions--since that's what he habitually does anyway, LOL!

And Frodo's determination is perfect. I love a strong Frodo!

Author Reply: I love a strong Frodo, too - and very much. I must shamefully admit that I get increasingly annoyed by the habit of a few ff-writers who tend to portray my favorite hobbit as overly weak, making the audience wonder why on earth Tolkien needed him when he had a strong Sam to do the job.

*steps off her soapbox*

And I love portraying Merry and Pippin more and more - thank you for your lovely compliments! They really make my day. *smiles*

This grows more exciting by the chapter! Enjoy your break.I will eagerly await more when you return.

Author Reply: And I will post the next chapter this weeks (after reassuring my wonderful beta that her changes were very helpful - and that she sorts my thoughts better than I sort them myself...*grins*)

I'm glad to see that Frodo has figured some things out on this matter. I felt so sorry for Merry when Frodo revealed Merry's own thoughts to him. It must have been like having your mind read aloud. I like Pippin as an under cover agent for Frodo and Merry. Finally a good use for all of the Tookish curiousity! Great chapter and my only regret at being caught up is that now I shall have to wait for more just like everyone else!

Author Reply: You won´t have to wait too long; I´ll be back on September 1O, and the next chapter is already written and has only to be betaed. Thank you for your lovely review! (And I just spent two minutes searching on a hungarian keyboard for an exclamation mark...tz tz tz...)

Once again a wonderful chapter!
I loved the conversation between Frodo and Merry, perfectly in-character, both of them.
And it turns out that there is at least one good effect of carrying the Ring to Mordor, Frodo's ability to feel the emotions of others. Particularly that scene with Merry was very touching.

So, now that Pippin found out about Artanis and her family, what will Frodo do, I wonder? Will he try to convince her to set Sam free? Or is he planning to turn himself over to her in exchange for Sam? He *would* do such a thing, I think. But I hope, I'm wrong :)

Have a nice holiday!

Author Reply: He will certainly do something. Just wait and see!

As always, delightful, my dear. You know, by this point in the fandom, most folks know what they like to read and know which authors consistently give it to them. I am grateful that I have found your work. You write engaging stories with depth, heart, (good sex!) and interpersonal relationships that I can identify with. That's RARE in this fandom... It may be sort of selfish, but I am glad that you haven't given up entirely on writing fanfic yet. *smooch*

Author Reply: *smooches back* And you´re one of the reasons why I´m still writing fanfic - who could be able to live without such a enthusiastic audience... (and such a friend to boot)? Glad to please you, my dear, as always.

I'm really enjoying this story, and will eagerly look forward to more when you return from your trip. I'm wondering if Frodo is the unnamed ransom? It certainly sounds as if he's gearing himself up for a swap with the kidnappers.

Author Reply: Frodo can´t be the unnamed ransom - the kidnappers still think heœ the hobbit htey´ve got. But he will get intouched with those evil guys, he will indeed. *smiles*

*Worrying about Sam.* Oh, you are keeping me in suspense... ;o)

Author Reply: One more chapter without poor Sam, but there will be a glorious rescue, I promise' Thanks so much for your interest and reviews'

I think indeed it is time for some hobbit-action and your clever hobbits--esp.love Pippin and Frodo in this, really make me very glad that they feel suspicion on Artanis enough to have Pippin question her and find out more about her.
::worries for Sam with Frodo though::
And I eagerly anticipate more. :) Thank you for such a hobbity chapter! I do want a show-down between Frodo and ARtanis though--it's time for something to be done! =)

Author Reply: There will be a quite satisfying showdown indeed - just wait! And thank you or your lovely review, Peri!
