Ada Knows Best  by Misty 17 Review(s)

Yes, both sides have learned from this, for Aragorn has managed to prove himself the warrior he must be and the decent individual he must be as well, and Elrond has reassured this beloved fosterling that he does well.

Thanks for the story--have enjoyed it.

Author Reply: I do like writing the loving father-son relationship between Elrond and Aragorn. In this story, Elrond has to come to terms with the fact that Aragorn is growing up, but he still has to reassure his son that he did well with everything he was facing. I think it is due to the way Elrond handles things that Aragorn doesn't get completely overwhelmed by everything later in his life. Yes, Aragorn has an inner strength, but Elrond nurtured that strength and allowed him to grow into the man who would one day be king.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I must admit, I'm slightly worried for Estel. I'd always wondered about Aragorn as a kid, and I think I'm going to enjoy this story. I sense an argument on the horizon between Estel and his "brothers". Question: Wouldn't he see Arwen as his sister if he saw Elrond as Ada and the twins as brothers?

Author Reply: Well, I hope you do continue to read and enjoy this story. There is definitely cause for you to worry over Estel as the story continues. As for the argument, you'll just have to keep reading to find out what happens between Estel and the twins.

As for seeing Arwen as a sister, he didn't meet her until he was twenty, so he would not have grown up thinking of her as a sister. For some reason, Elrond and the twins never even mentioned her. In the appendices, Tolkien mentions that Elrond came to see Estel as a son, so in my mind, it makes sense that Estel would see Elrond as a father and the twins as his brothers. I imagine that Aragorn did have many mixed feelings when he fell in love with Arwen, knowing that she was the daughter of his foster father and the sister of the elves he saw as his brothers. But all of the stories I write that include the twins have Aragorn being their 'little brother'.

Please more, this is so good!

Author Reply: Thanks, there's one more chapter left, to kind of wrap things up.

It is a time to reflect on what's happened. What Estel has done has been to blood him as a warrior, which I would hope would not be the easiest of roles for him to accept, although it is a most necessary one. But he's done exceedingly well both originally and in his accepting the responsibilities his actions have brought on him.

Author Reply: Yes, Estel will have to come to terms with everything that's happened. It won't be easy for him at all, but he'll have Elrond and the twins to help him through it. Elladan never wanted him to have to do the actual killing, but Estel could not allow the others to take all the responsibility for it, since it was his actions that made it necessary.

And there I was, thinking that with the arrival of the cavalry (sorry, Elves), the story would be ending! Poor Estel - this will be a hard lesson for him. I don't think Elladan should leave him to do all the killing, though.

Author Reply: Oh no, the story doesn't end there! There is a lot that has to be dealt with after Estel's rescue plans. And don't worry, Elladan would never leave his little brother to do all the killing. He's much more protective of him than that.

It is unfortunately only right Estel should accept the more horrid responsibilities along with the joyful ones; and it will aid him in the life he is to face in the future.

Author Reply: Yes, though it is a terrible thing, Estel is having to face the consequences of his actions. But it is moments like these that shape who a person becomes, and I think he turned out all right. Of course, no one can came away from something like this unscathed. He'll be dealing with this for awhile.

To do as well as he did in the limited amount of time available was quite the feat. Now, who will rescue the rescuer?

And LOVED the release of the hornet's nest on them! Clever Aragorn, using all he can find at the time to rescue his brothers!

Author Reply: Yes, Estel proved himself to be quite the tactician. But even the best plans can go awry, as Estel found out. He is certainly in need of some help now.

As for the hornet's nest, that part kind of wormed its way into the story. It wasn't an element I had planned ahead of time. But it certainly worked well for Aragorn, didn't it?

I bet Estel did not bargain on all this adventure! Really good story Misty, can't wait to see if Estel comes thru or gets capture with the rest of them. Poor Elrond, this must be one of the times when you can't figure out if you want to hug your child or choke them. LOL
Post soon

Author Reply: No, this is not what Estel thought he'd be facing when he took off to follow the others. You're right, I can only imagine the thoughts that cross Elrond's mind when he sees the message Estel wrote. I can imagine it would be quite a mix of emotions. The next chapter is on the way.

Well, of COURSE his mind is devious--look at who have trained him for the past thirteen years! Two devious twins and one of the greatest Elven warriors that ever walked through Arda!

Now to see how his distraction works!

Author Reply: True, with the twins and the other elves as his teachers, he would have to be quite devious. But with one of the twins commenting on it, you know things could get very...interesting. ;-)
