As you know, I loved this!! I think (I hope) I thanked you for it on LJ, but anyway, thanks! Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. :):):)
Love,
KH

Author Reply: Hi there, m'dear!!

I'm sorry I've been so horribly absent on LJ. When RL crowds in and time seems to be at a premium, LJ and forums are usually the first things to get left by the wayside.

I have missed you and Roz quite badly and will check in soon :)

I was and am so thrilled that you love this story and that it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling is everything I hoped for with it. You are most welcome, my pleasure to give you this gift :)

Love and hugs to you, your hubby and Shireling :)

This is really cute! My brother can knit *hides as brother throws things at her*, in actual fact her can knit better than me! Much as Lanti taught Pippin when he was ill, so Nanny Jean taught Jon when he was ill. Perhaps I enjoyed this story most because it "rang true". At any rate, it is adorably cute.

This is so sweet. A really nice mother and son moment. I love how knitting becomes something they can share together. Great work, Pearl :)

Author Reply: Thank you S.T. :) I think it would be even more fun for Pip because it is a secret he and Lanti are hiding from his sisters ;) I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for responding :)

I think you need to pick all your toys up, apologize to them, see if any of them need a healer then put them away.

Lanti is a wonderful mother!

I loved the idea to occupy little Pippin with knitting and Pippin's wish to make presents for Merry and other hobbits.

Some time ago I read a story on this site, where Frodo was "punished" by an elderly aunt of his by teaching him knitting. Actually he came to like it very much and Pippin's famous scarf was knitted by Frodo himself. I can't remember the author, but it was very nice, like your story :)

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! The Frodo story sounds neat, though a shame to use knitting as a punishment ;) I'm glad you liked my story :)

That is just sweet! I can see an active youngster like Pippin being so completely bored like that. Great solution.

Author Reply: Thank you, Endaewen :) Lying about is hard on kids and it really helps to have something productive to do. Thank you for reading and responding :)

I do like the image of a bored Pippin learning to knit. And that knitting is a secret vice of assorted males of the Shire. (They probably gather on dark nights in hidden holes to talk about cable stitch and Fair Isle.)

I can't think of a better occupation for Pippin, actually. Keeps him in one place while his hands are busy. And he can make things for his friends and family.

Author Reply: That is so cute, Bodkin!! You must be a knitter :)

I know I like to have my hands busy when I'm supposed to be sitting still; in meeting, church, classes and such. And I agree that Pippin would like that he could make things for others.

I am so glad that you wrote this one. I remember it being mentioned in "Little Ones of Their Own" which I have read about a thousand times because it is one of my favorites. I am thrilled with this one. I adore Pippin's concern for his toys after his tantrum and Eglantine was wonderful in the way she handled the situation. I love it!

Author Reply: Thank you, GW, for the kind words both for this story and "Little Ones". I guess this in a time that there is a bit of me in the story. I always felt badly afterwards if I threw a toy while I was angry. I had a special one that was actually my favorite stuffed toy, that often got punched or thrown - then I would sit and hug it, crying and aplogizing. Eglantine keeps her cool better than I often did ;) LOL

Oh, this is cute! I love the idea of Pippin knitting, really, and with his nimble fingers, he would have become quite good at it!

And it's not far-fetched at all, for in past times, when knitting first became commercially viable, it was men who did it. Women's knitting was for the home, men's was to sell.

Author Reply: Thank you, Dreamflower :) That is interesting to know, it's like most tailors are men and most professional chefs are men. If knitting hadn't become something done by machine, the professionals would most likely still be men.

Thank you for responding :)

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 3/17/2006
A friend knitted a sweater jacket for his wife which she wore for years. Nothing like a homemade item to show perseverence and love.

Author Reply: Oh, Larner! Thank you for that. What a wonderful thing! Yes, I love to give people things I've made for them, and to get things they have made.

Thank you for responding :)

My Dwarf, Elf, and Men soldiers are tired of fighting and my ponies are tired of racing

I love Pip's imagination, and his mum's compassion and patience.

:D

Author Reply: Thank you, dear shirebound :)

Yes, I think Pip would feel his toys are real - at least to some extent - as many children do. Very real one moment and then just toys the next with no rhyme or reason to the change.

I think Eglantine has more patience than I did with my son, LOL.
