Okay, NOW Panic!  by Boz4PM 14 Review(s)

Sorry for not reviewing earlier, but just after reading the update, the socket for the internet cable at my laptop broke out and being on holiday, I couldn’t even use my computer at work :-(

This chapter was worth the wait, so don’t worry about that and take your time! It was intriguing to have them talk about it all at last, to know what they think about it, how they feel ... I am so glad Penny was finally able to talk about all this, to hear from Aragorn, Legolas and Gandalf they do not blame her for anything. Even if she still feels guilty, I hope as soon as this talk had time to sink in she will feel considerably better.

And Halladan was there to comfort her further :-) Now I begin to wonder – was the repeated mentioning of Penny not returning to Imladris the consequence of someone foreseeing she would end up with Halladan? With all these foresighted people around I’d not be too surprised about something like this.

Oh, and I liked the way Gandalf always opened the door to receive the invited guests and to deal with the *not* invited *grin*

Author Reply: Sorry to hear about your computer woes. :( *hugs* I am glad you enjoyed this chapter - it was hard to write, but it was necessary for Penny as much as for plot. She needed to let out a lot of stuff she's been carrying all this time.

Ah, but that presupposes Halladan is staying in Gondor. ;)

Hee - glad 'General factotem' Gandalf amused. :D

GREAT to se a chapter after so long. I still suspect it might be discovered by Gandolf that actually Saromon or Sauron had reached through time to pull several people back, to force any possible information out of them that might give them some advantage. Figuring correctly that even after 10,000 years a mythos would survive that could be mined for information and used to change things, and if one of the victoms was well read, there might be specific information. Penny might be only one of several, but that the others died quickly. I suspect that in the end it may be Penny who realizes that in order for Things to be remembered, there must be more then one copy left of the Red Book, and she will have to work on that?

Author Reply: Of the various suggestions I have had from readers over the years as to how or why Penny is in Middle-earth in the first place, this is the most plausible yet, and I commend you. It really works as an idea IMHO.

Thanks for taking time to comment. :D

Just to let you know i check almost every day for an update thats how much i enjoy your fic!
Another fantastic chapter i liked the way Elrond admonished Penny for sugesting that he was to carry all the burden on his shoulders(never thought of his dilemma)great writing and i think a decision has already been made for Penny by Halladan i think.Till next time please keep updating yours is the best fic on the net thanks Laurelin.

Author Reply: Thank you I'm only sorry I can't get them written any quicker. :\ Thank you for reading and glad you enjoyed this chapter - it was a toughie to write, so I am so thrilled to have got so much positive feedback for it. :)

Wonderful as always, my dear! :) It would have been better for me without so many interruptions (daughter, tv, husband, tv [star trek!], cats.... ) but I thouroughly enjoyed it nonetheless.

I can't wait for more!

Author Reply: Thank you! :D Ah, the interruptions - writing it can be like that at times too, lol!

I read and enjoyed Don't Panic and I have been eagerly following this story. I appreciate and am fascinated by the level of detail you've included in both. You've given us an incredibly accurate picture of what life in ME was like. I think of it as the toilet paper and toothbrush tour, although I could have done without some of the feminine hygiene details - but hey, it's your story not mine. In addition, and without breaking canon, you've taken us through a fascinating and thought provoking story with wonderful characters. Thanks - Paladin1420

Author Reply: Thank you very much - both for taking the time to slog all the way through it as well as commenting with your response to it all. Much appreciated. :)

the toilet paper and toothbrush tour
*lol* It certainly is that! And, yes, perhaps some details were not for the squeamish, but then the whole reason this fic was written was as a challenge entry - and the challenge was realism, thus I have given realism and then some (or tried to ;))

I am glad you have enjoyed it so far - thanks. :)

Poor Penny! Just when she thinks she is beyond the ‘revelation’ stage, she again is subjected to the questioning of her knowledge, once more dredging up the painful implications over which she is suffering much guilt.

Their surprise of untold details that are spoken of with certainty though unshared with others must have troubled those attended the ‘conference’.

Will she admit what she knows of the situation in the Shire, or again let the tale unfold in the manner written of in modern time?

Oh, I was genuinely delighted to find Halladan awaiting her. He seems a man of high honor even though he is troubled in mind. Perhaps another wedding is in store for us?

Author Reply: The matter of the Shire is an issue Penny will have to wrangle in upcoming chapters. Suffice it to say it will cause her some inner turmoil and will not be an easy decision whichever way she decides to jump.

I am glad Halladan appeals to you - I wanted to create in him and his brother, young men their father would be proud of. :)

An interesting conversation. They are right to point out that the responsibility was not hers and that they all had their part in making the choices that led to that room in the Citadel.

Mind you, she still has the burden of knowing a few things - and deciding whether to pass them on.

Glad to see Halladan is waiting for her.

Author Reply: I think that is what will get through to her in the end as much as anything - the fact that, in many ways, she is not wholly unique in terms of feeling guilt or responsible.

Mind you, she still has the burden of knowing a few things - and deciding whether to pass them on.

Indeed, and this will be addressed in upcoming chapters.

Halladan is a 'good egg', as they say. :)

I haven't reviewed this story as well as I should have, though I have been reading and thoroughly enjoying it all along. I just couldn't resist commenting on this chapter though--of all of them, I think I like this one best. Penny's thoughts on everything she knew and how they all must feel about her in the end were fascinating to me. Great job here.

Author Reply: Oh, don't feel obliged in the least! I am glad that you have been continuing to enjoy it, though, and that this chapter particularly interested you. In some ways it was not dissimilar to the 'questioning' scene back in Imladris, only this was more about Penny's self-examination rather than explanation of herself (if that makes any sense). An important chapter for her as a character - this was something she needed to do, probably since the War ended.

Thanks for continuing to read it and for taking time to comment. :)

Wow! Finally! Great chapter, like always.
I must say, that all the others chapters have worked to this chapter. Where Penny, confronts herself and to the others why she never mentioned something. That was very hard for her to do (and to write this chapter also...). Well written!

Arg, why can't Elrond or Aragon give a straight answer to Penny's Question! Great, another cliff...but love it!!
Where is Lindir? I love this karakter!

Update soon...

Author Reply: I must say, that all the others chapters have worked to this chapter.
Exactly so, and this is indeed a situation that will progress over the coming chapters. Finally coming face to face with the after-effects of the War is quite unnerving and shocking for her. She would find it so even without all the specifics of her situation/the guilt she carries over her 'foreknowledge', etc. She has yet to be told about Halbarad's dying words, for example, as well as a few other things I have stored up my sleeve. ;)

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking time to review. :)
