I guessed the wrong things about the "usual stakes". I thought it was something either naughty or humiliating. Smiled so wide about how the newlyweds escaped from their guests/tormentors.

Author Reply: Actually, the 'usual stakes' come up in another short story - but I think you've read it since. And how nice for Eomer that Lothiriel now wins tankards of ale for him!

Well, once again many thanks for your reviews! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the story so much. Like I said, it was the first one I ever wrote, so it holds a special place in my heart.

And I still owe you a few more replies, but I have to be off to bed now. Long day at work tomorrow!

I have a confession to make: I said what I said only to get some clue about the new chapter... (but U know that!)
I'm VERY intrigued anyway! And I enjoy when you play with our minds like that...

I also have a confession to make: I enjoy to torment my readers (but you know that...). At least it will be over soon!

'“Of course not, dear heart,” he smiled, “What’s a little thing like an arrow in the roof? This is your home now, you may do as you please. That is, as long as you leave your bow outside our bedroom door tonight…” '

Eomer is such an easy-going bridegroom. Also a completely besotted bridegroom. Lothiriel has him wrapped around her little finger...They are very cute together. I hope Eomer recovers from the disappointment of finding his new bride asleep, though.

Author Reply: Hello Raksha,
I agree he's completely taken with her. This chapter kind of looks back to the earliest chapters with the archery tournament and I thought it would be funny to contrast his attitude then and now. I don't think he would have shown the same sangfroid about this kind of thing when he first met her!

Fortunately for him, the attraction is mutual and she doesn't quite realize what power she has.

And yes, he'll get over his disappointment pretty quickly...

Elphir is a total idiot. He doesn't even seem to realise that it is not a good idea to challenge Eomer on propriety on the very day of his wedding to Lothiriel. Perhaps Lothiriel should try doing a William Tell, with her brother acting as apple support.

I liked the campaign to escape the teasing. Eowyn got Lothiriel away safely - and the goodwill of Hergyth again came in useful. I can really see that the women wouldn't be nearly as keen on the macho 'bedding the bride and groom' antics.

And now Eomer has joined his wife - only to find her fast asleep. I hope she wakes up - I wouldn't want her to miss out on the wedding night activities that precede the formal assumption of queenship.

Author Reply: Hello Bodkin,
the William Tell scene is really something I should have come up with! Sounds like a worthy drabble topic.

Eomer does know how to choose his allies and it looks like Lothiriel is finally getting that good night sleep's you mentioned earlier on - or wasn't this what you had in mind? It's an interesting legal question you're raising here - would she still be queen? We might find out, then again we might not.

Well, well, well... The bow was the perfect gift for Lothiriel.
Elphir took all my patience away this time! We must punch Elphir! There's no other way!
The idea of Lothiriel and Eomer sneaking out the celebration, very amusing. But how could this be? Lothiriel it's asleep already? =S
Her new husband it's going to awake her? (all know the answer!)

Excellent chapter!

Hope for more next weekend!

Author Reply: Hello MPG,
Well, Eomer should have hurried a bit more, shouldn't he. At least it shows she can't be too worried about her wedding night. So is he going to wake her? Do we really all know the answer?

I know I'm a terrible tease!

Well, did anyone besides me want to punch Elphir?? Obnoxious git! I'm glad Eomer put him in his place. How can Elphir admonish his sister for having too much to drink during her wedding celebrations? Elphir really needs to lighten up--or have the stuffing beaten out of him!

Eomer was certainly surprised when Lothy told him Eowyn was going to teach her to fight but he quickly understood her reasoning, and Eowyn would be a good teacher. It would be a handy skill to have--maybe she can threaten Elphir on a regular basis.

Great chapter and I can't wait for more.

Update soon!

Ali.

Author Reply: Hello Alison,
no, you're not the only one of my readers not very keen on him. Still, I think Eomer did a pretty good job of reminding him it's no longer his business. And cheese knife fighting is a useful skill to have as we've seen in the past.

Nearly finished now!

*chuckle* Somehow, that was just about what I imagined would happen...

I have to say, for someone with such and intelligent father and siblings, Elphir does not seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. He completely has failed to get all the hints that Eomer has given him as to what is no longer his business. Perhaps Amrothos could take a 2x4 to his brother's thick skull. I don't think it would really *hurt* him any, but, like a mule it *might* get his attention...

Author Reply: Hello Dreamflower,
Elphir does sometimes sound like he's a couple of riders short of an éored, doesn't he! I very much think he got that last hint, however, and he's off home soon anyway.

But I think Eomer and Lothiriel have other concerns on their minds now...
