Paradox of the Fourth Age  by Alassante 7 Review(s)

Nice scene between Legolas and Laureanna about Eowyn. Once you know the future, the urge to "fix things" can be overpowering. I also like the dream given to Elladan. The Valar are intruding beyond just sending Laureana back!

Author Reply: Yes Laureanna meant well but she could have really messed things up. I try to be realistic and most people (and in my mind any young elleth in over her head in a situation) would try to do what their heart told them which would be to save as many people as possible. Unfortunately Legolas has to remind her that she has to do things 'for the greater good' rather than individuals.

(From the flashback section of this chapter)

Ah, this is so sad and so well written! I feel the anguish of Elladan, the desire to do SOMETHING, even while knowing it is hopeless. And for Elrond to feel the moment of Estel's death, to feel that his sons are so broken that "there will be nothing left to heal," is almost too much!

I also especially like these two lines:

“But are we not Man as well? Do you not feel that you are abandoning that part of yourself to leave them so…helpless?” Elladan asked.

Elrohir was quiet for a moment before saying, “We were given a choice, long ago. Whether we realized it or not, we made that choice when we returned to Imladris after the war.”

Author Reply: I wanted to explore something that was barely touched on in the movie - the connection between Aragorn and Elrond. As his adopted son, I thought there should be more tenderness between them that in my opinion was only shown slightly in the movie during the scene by Aragorn's mother's grave and when Aragorn and Arwen kissed in Minas Tirith (but that was partially to do with his daughter) This was my chance to give a little tenderness to their bond.

Good to see them finding sense, even if Arwen and Celebrian must in shadow form force Elladan to intercede between Elrohir and his destiny.

I was reading your latest chapter today and I realised how much I am enjoying this story. Especially the parts where you write along with Tolkien's Return of The king, gives me the feeling I am reading the books again, but now I am following Laurëanna's perspective. Just as the chapter before, I love the insightful bits of how both half-elves are dealing with the fall of Middle Earth. The foreshadowing of Elladan's edain's ties to Middle Earth, wanting to fight at Estels side is simply stunning.

There is so much more I love about this story so far that I can go on about it for hours. I will finish this review by asking you to update soon and thank you for posting this great and magnificent story here at this archive.

Author Reply: Thanks Rhaps! I have reasons for alot of things I do that haven't come to light yet including Elladan's foreshadowing. But I must keep some secrets and keep you guessing BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Every time I read this I love Laureanna more and more. She thinks she has no courage, but she has.
She must feel tortured with Elrohir thier and not tell him, and the temptation to tell others who she is.
I liked that Elladan was giving to protect her and help Elrohir's feeling with her, is it a gift for what she has endured...

Please update soon, great job...

Author Reply: I'm so glad you like Laureanna. I worry so much when writing an OFC that she is the right mix of likable and believable. Hopefully now with Elladan and Legolas both in her corner, Elrohir will realize what is right in front of him.

I so love this story. Love the premise. Love the characters. Love the turmoil in the hearts of everyone involved. Elrohir's jealousy is very interesting indeed. Elladan was great in this chapter. More, please? Pretty please? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Author Reply: I'm so glad you're liking it Ellie. I know you're a big Glorfindel fan and so you enjoying this makes me happy!
