Oooo that little Merry was an ornery one, what? Clever idea, to have Frodo tell a story on him! Heheh! Good one!

Oh, my goodness! That was delightful! ..."living near the Old Forest damages the brain". One can see the infant roots of Merry's gift for military strategy and planning! So funny.

I love this one!! Pippin as Vinca repellant :)

Pippin-management comes almost instinctively to his cousins. Those scrambled eggs made it down his gullet before he dropped off to sleep - and he can always demand a replay of the embarrassing Merry story when he wakes. I suspect his cousin will tolerate pretty much anything in return for a recovering Pippin.

I loved the picture of Merry hovering jealously over his hoard of favourite things. And that he took the fact that nobody has ever caught anyone trying to grab them as proof positive that the toy-grabbers are sneaky rather than non-existent.

Very funny that the first thing that draws Merry to Pippin is his value as a Pervinca-repellent.

Author Reply: I expect that they've been practicing Pippin-management all his life, don't you?

What is hilarious to me is that we were at someone's house for dinner on the weekend, and they have a six-year-old boy, and I overhead the mother giving him a lecture to the effect that "No, they're not trying to steal your toys...!"

I loved the tale originally--but with the introduction and afterward it is even more priceless! Poor Pippin--sleeps just as the story gets fully interesting! Love it!

Author Reply: I imagine he's going to have the story all over again... but that Frodo will be sure to wait until Merry is also available to hear it. *g*

A possessive Merry is new to me but very plausable. Especially liked the closet scene, oh and ofcourse the need for Frodo to tell it again when Pippin wakes up.

Author Reply: On the weekend we were invited to dinner and I overheard the mom lecturing her six-year-old son while we were putting the meal together. "No, they are not trying to steal your toys! They just want to play with them!"

It struck me very funny, for some reason.
