The Tenth Walker  by Lindelea 8 Review(s)

It's been too long since I read this delightful story. Wish I could remember the other stories I was reading.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for stopping and taking the time to share your thoughts! Now that the snows are flying again, Caradhras seems to come more clearly to mind. I am hoping to finish this one sooner than later. At least I am not allowing myself to be distracted by NaNoWriMo this year!

Hugs,
Lin

Author Reply: (I realized belatedly that you were commenting on events that took place long before Caradhras. I hope my reply was not too confusing.)

Oh I just love this fic!!! It's so different and so cute and I love how you have shown Bill's thoughts and his pony-ish humour.

Please do update! I cannot wait to see what he thinks of Glorfindel and Asfaloth and also about his adventures in Rivendell and beyond.

Author Reply: Well, it took a month before I had time to put the next chapter together, but there is an update as I write this.

Thanks!

"I only hope they did not make a pony climb up and down, bearing a sledge of hewn stone down this slope at the end of a long and weary day" -- Poor Bill! He's been with them for less than three weeks, and is haunted by so many years of bad memories.

Author Reply: Poor Bill! I think he's going to live a lifetime in the next six months or so. Whew.

Thanks!

'Bones?'
Ooh! Scary. Poor old Bill, exposed to this. Wonderful to see how he becomes afraid from the reactions of the others, even though he can tell there is nothing around that will harm them.

Author Reply: Poor Bill. I'm sure he takes a dim view of bones.

Thanks!

*grin* I had been waiting for Bill's perspective of this event. I love the way he is being infected with the apprhension of the others, even though his nose is telling him there is no danger.

I love the constant evolution of Bill's variations on Merry's name: Merry-grown-uneasy

It's so good to see Frodo's interest at this point in time.

Author Reply: This troll-episode just keeps dragging on! I do so want to get past the trolls, but I think there'll be another two chapters or so before we meet Glorfindel and Asfaloth.

Thanks!

I like the way you give us Bill's simple observations and feelings... Our feet fall quiet... our thoughts run unquiet.

Author Reply: It's been fascinating to see the story through a pony's eyes. I've had a whole new appreciation of the depth and detail JRRT gave us in this story.

Thanks!

I keep saying this but good, old, sensible Bill! I am glad that curiosity can overcome pain to some extent as we see in Frodo.

Author Reply: Yes, it's interesting how unusual events can make us forget our troubles, even momentarily.

Hope you're doing well. Am keeping up with your LJ posts at the moment, and sending up prayer on your behalf. (And your Mum's, and your Dad's)

Thanks!

I love the shifting descriptors of Merry, matching his mood and current wariness. And Sam's eminent practicality and Strider's professional wariness are so perfect, as is Merry's dismissal of tweenaged Pippin's eagerness to see while not putting himself out.

And Bill continues to be so in character, careful of Master, reassured and anchored by Sam, respectful of the Man, and so much a pony!

Wonderful!

Author Reply: Thank you! I meant to answer this chapter's reviews right away, but wouldn't you know it, there's been very little time for fanfic, this past month...

I love seeing the characters through your eyes.

Hope you came through the snow and ice and wind and torrential rain without a problem. Our basement took in a little water, but we didn't lose much, thankfully.
