I liked this, it was nice and sweet and happy. And Elrond and Huan made me laugh.

Author Reply: Thank you; I'm glad it made you laugh!

Children at play at it's best. That Estel let the pretend Luthien come along because she will be handy if they have to sing Morgoth to sleep, and Elrond got delegated to be the hound Huan. I love the song that Etsel choose to sing because it had lots of verses about swords. Amazing what kids will pick up.
Thanks so much for writing this story, it put a smile on my face and gave me lots of laughs.

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it. I love to watch kids playing around. On occasion, I have to be "the lost kitty" or some such thing, so I sympathize with Elrond about being Huan.

*rolling on the floor laughing* Oh god oh god oh god oh god.... that's just wonderful.... "Woe is me! I will langui- langui - I will wait here sadly forever!" Oh, my sides hurt....

I can remember days like this with my son. Seldom did the Remarkable Brian ever pretend anything quite so edifying as the Lay of Luthien, but oh well! Environment is what you make of it!! :-)

"The same child who could not sit still through breakfast or fifteen minutes of arithmetic was lying without discernable movement under the table, pretending to be half-dead." LOL!!! Oh gods yes....

Holy Thunder! This is delightful! Thank you for sharing it with us!!

Author Reply: Thanks; I almost didn't post it because it's so short. I'm so glad you got a kick out of it, and that it reminded you in some way of actual days with your son. I think imaginative kids are so much fun to watch - and I'm sure if the Lay of Luthien had been a kids' book or a Saturday morning cartoon, many parents would have been subjected to endless scenes of rescuing and languishing!

A delightful story, Antigone. You have a wonderfully way of capturing Estel in all your stories, and this one is no exception. I hope this is a sign we will be seeing you around a bit more again. :-)

Author Reply: Or a sign that I have insomnia...but seriously, I'm glad you like Estel; I always have fun writing about him. And yes, I will probably be posting more from now on. :-)

I am glad you posted this here, Antigone! I love Estel's make believe play, and I am laughing at Elrond the faithful hound! What a good sport :-)

Author Reply: Lots of people seemed to like Elrond-the-faithful-hound. I bet it didn't even occur to Estel that Elrond would have a character preference...

Very, very cute. This captures the innocence of Estel beautifully. He doesn't realise the significance of the story he is inacting. Great job!

Author Reply: No, he doesn't realize - but hopefully the reader will. It gives a nice background into what Aragorn might have been thinking when he met Arwen.

Awwww...Elrond is such an obliging father and Estel the most adorable little child. I totally agree with Elrond...summer days should not be wasted!!!! :)

Author Reply: Oh, in all my stories, Elrond is exceptionally nice. And I don't like to waste summer days either!

This is just killing. Such a delightful Estel and a lovely Elrond. It is such fun watching little children playing pretend games. Estel makes a sweet Beren. Elron as Huan, though? I suppose he shares some of the same characteristics. I'm glad he abandoned his work to play.

Author Reply: Elrond was probably just as surprized as you to find himself being cast as Huan. Personally, I'd love to be able to abandon my work to play on a nice summer day.
