A New Kind of Courage  by Auntiemeesh 5 Review(s)

This chapter was awesome. :D

Finally, they began to speak of the things that lay closest to their hearts, concern for Frodo and Sam, wonder at the idea they could possibly have won this unwinnable war, and their joy, in the midst of this chaos, to have survived everything and still have each other.
awwww~! this made me so excited and just yes, I so agree with this statement and makes me love hobbits all the more. So glad that Tolkien had them all return to the Shire safe and whole--it would've been horrible had one of them died and i just dont' think i could bear that.

I love your concern that you show throughout the chapters that Merry and Pippin have for each other-- both of them are tired from the Quest and hurt from the Quest and their looking after each other is so rightly portrayed and just so well-written.

Now, you try shouting at Frodo like that, and he’ll hand you your head on a silver platter, but that’s a different story altogether. I’m much more understanding than dear old Frodo."

Merry was unable to suppress a snort of surprised laughter. "Well, I suppose I’d best keep my temper under tight control around Frodo, then."

"Yes, I suppose you’d best," Pippin agreed with a straight face.

lol i love this observation of which cousin has authority. ;) <3Frodo. Merry still needs to beware of his temper with Frodo. :)

ANd this is my favortie parrt which really made me laugh out loud:

Merry scowled up at his friend. "Is this a new game for you, Aragorn, getting me drunk? Because you are very good at it."

"I take full responsibility for the first occasion," Aragorn answered with a barely suppressed smile. "But I think this one is all on you, my friend."

Poor Merry and what a rascal Aragorn is! In chapter 14, i was already like, Aragorn what are you doing getting Merry drunk when he's been touched by the shadow and such?

lol So great.

Hobbits and wine.... i want more stories like that. hehe :D

And Aragorn surely knows and has an instinct to know that Merry is a light-weight and needs tea and soothing drinks in the morning--lol... what a mind-reader. :D

Author Reply: My favorite part about writing this story was getting the contrast between those really dark, serious moments, and the light-hearted face that hobbits present when times are grim. All the little games that Merry and Pippin play to keep themselves and each other from falling headlong into the dark are really important.

As for Aragorn setting Merry drunk, it was an underhanded trick, but it was also necessary. Merry needed to talk but his controls were so rigid he wasn't about to say anything. Aragorn needed to play a little dirty in order to help Merry.

Hobbits and wine.... i want more stories like that.

Yes, I like the hobbits and wine combo myself, lol. If you haven't already read 'A Picnic' you may want to check it out. Just a lighthearted bit of drunken hobbit fluff without the dark undertow.

WHew! I am glad that Merry's dreams were just ordinary nightmares! So not all bad dreams will be shadow tinted, if only Merry will be able to tell the difference. Pippin being frustrated because no one had looked in on him in a while made me laugh! I'm looking forward to more, thank you!

Author Reply: Yes, learning to tell the difference is going to be the hard part for Merry, as you'll see in a few chapters.

Thanks for reading. :)

That was great; again! :-p, but I'm still going to ask(again...), NOW is Merry over the shadow? ;)

Author Reply: Lol, I'm not telling! It would ruin all the fun, if I told you everything now. You'll just have to wait and see.

I'm glad you're enjoying this, thanks for reading. :)

Uh, oh. Didn't Aragorn say something about unexplained anger?

But then he said the nightmares were just nightmares. Hmmm.

The rest of the chapter has a peaceful feel to it, sort of a respite, or a time of healing.

Looking forward to more!

Author Reply: It's fun to speculate, isn't it? Is Merry going to have another bad nightmare? Is Pippin ever going to recover his memories? Join us next week for the exciting continuation of the story! It's like a soap opera, lol.

Thanks for reading! :)

Nice...
Merry is still having nightmares, and seems tired a lot, is worries keeping him from rest.
Pippin is starting to get better, but his memory is still not back to where it should. How do you deal with gaps in your memory, it would be a hard thing.
Merry has even snapped at pippin,he seems edgy...
Merry is kept busy, and it keeps him occupied,a visit at the stram with pippin may help both of them...

great job...

Update soon...

Author Reply: Memory loss is a tricky thing, but Pippin is doing better than he thinks he is. Merry's doing alright as well. He and Pippin are starting to get restless and so they snipe at each other, which is pretty normal. I think Merry's mood should improve now that he has other things to do.

Thanks for reading. :)
