Dispelling the Cold  by Jocelyn 14 Review(s)

I read this story first, and found I should have started with Places. This one would have been even better than it was. I liked they were all friends, not only comrades. The fact they carried that deer so far, then had to abandon them hurt me too. They went out planning to ease their peoples pain and only added to it. I guess it was cold enough, the deer was still there if anyone could get back out to look!

"Look, Legolas. There are those deer we killed 2 months ago. Lucky the wolves didnt find - eeeek! Wolves!"

I love your characters! Please write more!

I should tell you. I asked for young Legolas recommendations on groups.yahoo.com/group/aragornangst and that's where I got your name.

What a generous gift, and what a beautiful story for us all.
Thank you so much, I very much enjoyed it and shivered along with poor Legolas.

Write more soon - please.
May your blessed feather be always kissed by your Muse

I enjoyed this story. It was kind of fluffy but still filled with suffering and angst and lovely family cuddlies. You're right, it was a really wonderful Thranduil story. :) The world needs more of them.

And I thought that you so wonderfully expressed the pain that family members feel when a child is suffering. I recently had a nephew with an earache and it about made me cry for him, when they don't know what else to do when they hurt but cry. It is heartbreaking for everyone. I could just about feel Thranduil's helplessness and pain from your words. Wonderfully done.

And hey, I wouldn't have made it through law school if not for fanfiction. (reading, not writing). My own apartment with my own computer and no one around to tell me to get back to reading cases instead of stories. . . oh, my addiction just about got out of hand. But I personally think it helped me retain my sanity. It is good to remind yourself that there is something else in the world besides Contracts and Torts. :)

GOOD LUCK on exams!

Me again. While I'm at it, I thought I'd quote Robert Frost.

SOME say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I am so pleased to see these characters again. I love them all!

I was particularly struck, though, by the interplay between Berensul and Legolas. "Hate you sometimes." That's a wonderful line because it rings true and it's something that gets elided from most fanfic stories about siblings.

I also liked the parents' concern and the stuff in the closing about how parents irrationally wish that a child could never feel pain or grief or any of the other things that we accept as inevitable for ourselves.

I've been cold to the point of pain more frequently that I like to think about, so I have two words for Legolas: Eddie Bauer.

Awwwww~ I love it! Thranduil is soooo cute when he is worried:-D I think you should to like an epilogue where another party finds the deer:-D Up to you of course, but a thought from me:-) Great story and can't wait to read more...

Oh, I can remember some of my childhood adventures out in the snow and how cold everything became once I got wet. Brrr! This story was a great prequel to Nudge. In fact, A Little Nudge Out the Door was one of the first LOTR stories I ever read. Good characterization, very believable scenerios, and loving friends and relatives. I love your Thranduil, as a father and as a king. He is not perfect in any sense but he treats all his subjects as his children in a way. I hope you will write more short stories like these to fill in the blanks.

Very nice, the descriptions were definitely realistic and I'm glad it's sunny outside at the moment. This brings to mind the old question: "Would you rather burn to death or freeze to death?" It looks like the cold can do both.

I liked the way they were all worrrying about the food they didn't bring back. It was needed, but I'm sure all the Elves - especially their families - would want them safe before anything else.
