As the Gentle Rain  by Lindelea 5 Review(s)

Short but bittersweet. I am so relieved that they found the twins, but I'm so sad about both Ferdi and Ulrich. I'm also worried about Nell, of course, too.

Connie.

I'm glad that the little twins were found! Lassie thinking he knew her name was sweet! I'm glad they ahd the since not to turn them into the madman! I can't wait to find out what happens to Nell and if Ferdi recovers! Thank you for what we have so far!

Oh thank goodness Pippin and Diamond's babies are safe now!

I just hope they can find Pimpernel before that psychopath does what he wants with her!

*shudders*

Yay, they found the twins! I hope they find Nell and the pilgrim soon. Nasty old pilgrim.

The grandfather has good instincts, and I'm glad he trusts them. Diamond's grief is so raw here, that I'm relieved you reunited her with the twins before vacation. That's mighty kind of you to her, and to us too.

Ulrich sounds like a hobbit at the end, do you know? I do believe he is truly sorry, and I hope that you find some way to save him, but I am beginning to wonder why no other hobbits are clamouring to sit with Ferdi. I understand why Aragorn wanted Ulrich to do it - to give back, and to grant comfort - but if the others have been told, they would certainly want to be there. Are Sam and Merry on the search? Are the Itilien hobbits fully occupied with Freddy? If they think Ferdi truly dying, should they not all be there to sing him out?

Author Reply: Hope it's not too implausible to say that nearly all the hobbits were banned to a different wing of the Houses of Healing for the afternoon and evening, to keep Pippin and Freddy from discovering the terrible news about what had happened in the marketplace. Melilot still doesn't know, sitting by her husband's side. She's been told that they're keeping things very quiet for the sake of the sick hobbits until the morning, and "knowing" that the hanging is to take place at dawn she thinks she understands.

Diamond found out by accident (though they really couldn't have kept it from her; she'd have been wondering by suppertime), before the Big Folk had got organised, but as a result they had to send the nurse in to sit with Pippin so that he should not find out.

Ferdi's family is actually being kept from him. He doesn't actually *know* that Nell's been taken by the ruffian, so far as the healers know, and they don't want one of his grieving relations to let the fact slip. If he begins to fail, they'll drop all pretending and send his family to sing him out.

All this will hopefully be clear in the next chapter (or the one after) but am not sure I will have time to write and post these before i go visiting unless I get some computer time on the weekend. So this is just a little peek, since you're anticipating plot points and have asked good questions.

Thanks for reviewing!
