Hurray - you added a little explanation of the gift...well, sort of! :P I'd still like to know exactly what it was and why Frodo had it. Another wonderful chapter made better.

Yes, I have been keeping myself busy. I'm on a break from uni, so I figure I should take advantage of it for as long as I can! Hope Pookie gets better soon :(

I always planned on reading it here, but I'm very impatient - and knowing that I could find out what happens next was *far* too tempting. I thought the original version of this chapter was great, and your revising only made it better. Looking forward to the final chapter!

Author Reply: Awww. That's really nice of you to say that--and I'm sincere as well. *hug* Thank you for your words of encouragement, and for all your kind reviews! You're keeping busy these days, aren't you? I'll be around as I finish up some stories, but Pookie the laptop isn't faring too well today... It will be great if I can just get chapter 11 up before she's six feet under today. Thanks again!

Now I see! Everyone was out looking for the thief and Paladin has to explain that it was Pip! Ouch! No wonder everyone is in trouble on this one. But what did Frodo give Merry????? Surely not the one ring!

Author Reply: Oh yeah, when the Mayor and the Shirrifs got involved, it was out of Paladin's hands...and he had to 'fess up that it was his own son doing the raiding! Yep, just a bit peeved. As for *what* Frodo gave Merry...stay tuned for the last chapter. Nothing huge, but very interesting. Thanks for reviewing, GW! Still waiting for another compelling story from you...no pressure, though! :-P

This chapter just makes me wonder what happened when Paladin later found out that Frodo had taken Pippin off to a battle field in the South, even though (of course) Frodo tried to leave them behind.

Author Reply: I'm glad you honed in on that! I thought about that the whole time I wrote it--tongue-n-cheek, somewhat. Paladin is a caring father, and it's a natural tendancy for him to try and protect Pippin from unseen dangers. Yet Paladin can protect his son for only so long before he has to turn him loose to Life itself. Thanks, Arwen!

This is one of your stories I hadn't gotten to reading yet on ff.net. Now I'll have to head over there to find the last couple of chapters! I love the way you pick up on small quotes from the books and work them into wonderful stories! And yay, Pervinca made a cameo. :P

Author Reply: Thanks, Pervina! Well, let me warn you--the one on ff.net isn't all that great, and riddled with inconsistencies. Trust me, this one is a tad better, and I'm nearly done with scrubbing chapter 10, with the last one, 11, right behind it. Thanks for reading, and reviewing!

btw, I like Pervinca! At least, my characterization (and ones similar) of her!

This is not going to go well is it? I don't think Paladin is going to be very happy with them even if they do tell the truth. Unless, Frodo spills his guts about the elves?!

Author Reply: Ahhh! Come on, GW! LOL...Alls well that ends well! :-D You wouldn't think Paladin *unfair*, now would you??? Of course he a...tad peeved. You'll see why. Thank you for reading and your wonderful reviewing!

Seems that Pippin has taken this crop stealing to heart. LOL Looks like trouble is coming to me. I am still wondering what Frodo was up to. I'm with Merry on that one, I think he should let some of us in on it. He can trust us, we won't tell. LOL

Author Reply: Whatever would make you think there's trouble ahead? :-P Yeah, sure! LOL You won't tell, but by plastering it all over the review boards, I will!

Thank you for reviewing, GW!

“I’m the landowner’s son--what can they possibly do to me?” - famous last words. A wonderful story.

Author Reply: Hehehe...just wait and see!

Thank you, Lyta, for reviewing, and for your kind remarks.

No wild parties? Funny my folks used to say the same to my sister and I! Imagining Sam's expression made me laugh so hard my ribs ached.

Author Reply: Ahh, but Sam's a good little hobbit! Unlike us....! Thank you for reviewing!

Merry and Pippin stealing crops! Wonder what Frodo is up to in this one? Who swore him to secrecy and why did he ditch Merry and Pippin? This is very exciting so far. I like the bit where it starts with Pip gettig caught and then goes into flash-back mode. Very nice. Waiting for more.

Author Reply: Thank you, GW, that whole flash-back thing was entirely experimental. Glad you liked it! All of your questions should be answered in the upcoming chapters. If not, let me know because then it would probably be a 'clear idea' problem. I'm just a beginner! Thanks for your encouragement.
