Hunting  by Nilmandra 12 Review(s)

OK, slap me. Where have I been? I totally missed the start of this. Too much miruvor eggnog over the holidays.

How charming is that little elfling? I want to take him home. I love the interaction between Thranduil and Legolas and also the older brother with the young one.

I get nervous with Elladan and Elrohir and orcs mentioned in the same story with baby Legolas.

I continue on. At the back my thick elven brain is the idea that I have a wagon left dangling over a precipice in History2 and must also attend to that.

NO NAPS!!
You couldn't calm that elfling down with anything less than knockout drops.
I am glad that Tathiel has Rawien to "protect her" from less than quiet elflings and that she has him to strengthen her fea to support the new elfling to come. It hasn't been that long and here she is enciente.
What is Legolas going to do when Tathiel has an elfling of her own? Drool over him/her because it is Tathiel's and that almost makes it a sibling or get sibling rivalry? I am sure you will let us know in detail. At least I hope so. Ordinarily elves spaced their offspring so far apart in essence their older sibs would be like extra parents to them.
Can't track or surprise ada. He has had a lot of tracking experience with his earlier elflings. Hard to put anything over on him.
Yes the garden wouldn't be as much fun but on the other hand there are too many things to track elflings outside the garden. I think ada would always err on the side of safety when it comes to this little prince.
Now we have the gorgeous twins of Imladris in fine orc killing form. At least I have always thought of them as gorgeous and since Peter Jackson didn't give them parts in his movies my imagination can still run wild. Gotta love 'em.
And we get one of them nekkid also. Can't get much better than that.
I thought the phrase "something comfortable and comforting to know adults of his childhood still watch out for them" was very nice and opens up a interesting train of thought. When you consider that many elves could possibly by around for a really long time, elves would have such a different view of generations and relationships.
Nice first chapter. Can never go wrong with a nice, fluffy, cute, adorable, (OK I'll quit now) little Legolas and family and friends. I look forward to more.

Author Reply: Hmmm........I missed this review! Bad me. I have rule- every story with elves must have at least one nekkid elf. I thought about making it site policy, but was dissuaded :D

I don't know how I have missed the updates on your stories! Grrr! I was so happy to see that there is a new little Legolas story, and was pleased to read that Tathiel and Rawien will be having a little bundle of energy of their own!

Author Reply: Thanks, Fades :D Little Legolas practically writes himself, and I am curious to see how he is when he is not the 'baby' and constant center of attention!

Great, a new story with the Twins in it!

I'm already looking forward to this one! Starts off well, too, with Elladan bathing in the stream... you know, I think I'll go now and have a cold shower myself.

Author Reply: LOL! - you know the fanfiction rules, right? Every story with elves must have at least one naked elf in it. And now that Elladan is all grown up, it is much more fun to imagine.... :D

I am sooo glad that you're writing another little Legolas fic! It completely made my day. :) I simply love the family and relationships you've set up for him. And little Legles is positively adorable. ;) I'm really looking forward to reading more about them.

There's only one thing I'm a little confused about. I've always heard that Legolas is nearly three thousand years old by the time of the Fellowship, but you have him at about 500 years old. Is the older age wrong or is the discrepancy in the books?

Author Reply: Actually, Tolkien never said how old Legolas is! PJ made up his number (29xx) whatever Orlando Bloom said. Legolas seemed younger to me than that, and he made a comment once about how '500 times have the leaves fallen since..' - and so I wanted him born at the end of the watchful peace --- and of course, the return of shadow in 2460 was just convenient :D So, I made up my number too. Glad you like the start - I have the next chapter almost done, and little Legolas still steals every scene he is in :-)

I'm so glad that you've started another story with this wonderful family! The fact that the twins and Glorfindel are also in this story is "icing on the cake".

Author Reply: I am looking forward to writing more about this delightful little elfling. And he gets to meet elves who are not wood elves!

Great opening, Nilmandra! I loved little Leg'las successfully "catching" Tathiel, then being caught himself, and not being able to catch Ada. Nice parallelism. :-)

I have a growing fear that our little elfling might have an unfortunate meeting with the Imladris-hunted orcs!

Author Reply: Poor Tathiel, being tracked and stalked but this little elfling. He is delightful, but....

His encounter will not be too scary, well, at least not for him. I have no Legolas toture planned. The twins, however....

Mmmm, intriguing beginning. Little Legolas is a hoot, as usual (he reminds me so much of my own grandson!), Ada Thranduil is good and wise ;), and it's lovely to see Tathiel and Rawien again.

And Glorfindel and the twins are here too! Almost all (no Elrond or Celebrian) my favorite elves together in the same story--I'm looking forward to this.

Author Reply: Glorfindel sends a big hello and hug your way :D Little Legles is amazingly fun to write and is such a cheerful and delightful little elf that I think I will have fun with this. Hope you enjoy it and it brings a smile to your face :D

Thank you!!! A sequel!! I'm so excited. So am I correct in assuming that if Legolas is nine years old in this chapter, and the year is III 2469, that our Prince was born in 2460? (of the Third Age). Checking my reference. the twins were born III 130. They are, therefore 2330 years older than Legolas, who was 558 when he joined the Fellowship. Now assuming my math is correct, the only information I would still like to know is how to convert elvish years to human years. When you say he is nine, you mean in Elvish count. He would be much older in human years. Or perhaps you are thinking of nine in human years? See what confusion I'm in? Well glad I figured out when Legolas was born. Please set me straight! But either way great fic! Keep writing!

Author Reply: I had Legolas born in 2460 of the Third Age - but that is just a date I chose for my purposes, although there was some logic to it. So he is nine years old. Elves came of age at around 50 years of age - so if you compare that to say a human coming of age at 21, you can sort of figure the 2:1 or 2.5:1 and he is similar in size to a human 4 year old. Laws and Customs of the Eldar (LACE) says that elven children developed more quickly in mind but slower in body, so that an elf compared to a human, when the human has come of age, is the size of a human child of 7-8 years. So, when I picture Legolas, he would appear to me as an adorable, precocious 4 year old.

I thought that both sets of characters here were very appealing. Legolas is a charming, cheerful, curious elfling who is obviously much loved. The twins are capable warriors. And the whole bunch of them look like they're doing interesting things. Great start.

Author Reply: I am glad they are appealing.....little Legolas is a handful and I am looking forward to him and the twins meeting. I actually feel bad for the twins!
