"I have always wondered," Frodo croaked, "why healers seem to take such pleasure in making their draughts taste as horrible as possible." His fine features twisted into a grimace.

Merry shrugged. "It must be because they love hearing their patients moan about it."

He watched, amused, as Frodo stuck out his tongue at him, then quickly drained the mug and ate two bites of the buttered bread Merry had brought to take the edge off the taste.

"Thank you, Merry dear," Frodo mumbled, sinking into the covers. Merry smiled, and kissed his brow. His beloved cousin was at last on the mend.
