Frodo, Merry thought, was so much more than the cousin he had loved since his birth. Merry couldn't remember life without Frodo and now he was beyond reach. Frodo had left with Gandalf and Bilbo on the ship and now Merry's pilar of support, big brother, wise friend, childhood playmate, teacher and among the dearest of cousins was gone. Merry knew he had to live with that and reminded himself that he hadn't lost Pippin. Still, Frodo would always hold a special place in his heart, no matter how far away he was and Merry took comfort in that.
